It's no secret that Steve Rogers' legacy is inherently intertwined with the Captain America title. Even though Sam Wilson has everything he needs to don the mantle, some will inevitably question his capabilities. In the Captain America: Brave New World trailers, President Ross voices this sentiment by telling Sam Wilson, "you're not Steve Rogers," to which Sam responds "You're right. I'm not." However, most people recognize that Sam Wilson didn't replace Steve Rogers, but became Captain America.

The fact that both close allies, government officials, mercenaries, and supervillains acknowledge Sam Wilson's title reveals that he isn't overshadowed by Steve Rogers' legacy, and that he instead made the Captain America mantle his own.

Captain America: Brave New World's second trailer offers a glimpse at Captain America's fighting prowess. Sam Wilson has never been faster, stronger, and more agile. In the trailer, Captain America faces multiple armed enemies simultaneously, battles the Red Hulk, and races fighter jets. Cap survives a missile attack while airborne and slices a burning car in half — both with the help of his vibranium wings. These feats are unique to Sam Wilson and might make him a more powerful Captain America than Steve Rogers.
Marvel has shared the first trailers for its first two films of 2025, and they are wisely going back to what worked in two of Marvel's best films.
However, Captain America: Brave New World's second trailer suggests that Sam Wilson will once again prove his worth without his full Captain America gear. Just like he stopped the Flag-Smashers mostly without his shield in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson will allegedly be "caught without his wings" while fighting Sidewinder, and he will be stripped of his shield at some point in the film. Yet, Captain America will come out on top anyway, as he always does.
