Marvel Announces Full Avengers Roster For New Era, All Members and Powers

This November, Marvel is relaunching The Avengers, redefining the franchise with a core roster of surprising heroes. While most of these heroes have been known for months, Marvel just revealed a key member who changes everything.

Here is every member of the Avengers who will star in Marvel's revamped Avengers Volume 10, including their unusual first villain and the A-list Marvel antagonist who will challenge this unique group of heroes.

We'll be focusing on establishing where each of these heroes is in their lore as a new era begins for Earth's Mightiest Heroes, as well as sharing everything we can about the new superhero who just became a main character in Avengers lore for the first time. Avengers #1 is coming November 4 from Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto.

Spider-Man (aka Peter Parker)

Avengers Volume 10 will spin out of the ongoing Avengers: Armageddon, in which the team's traditional roster have taken on Red Hulk and his Hulk army. Spider-Man ditched the conflict early on, arguing that he wasn't cut out for matters of global import, and was needed to defend New York City.

With superstrength, enhanced agility, steel-strong webbing, and precognitive 'Spider-Sense,' Spider-Man has long been above the level of street hero, whatever he says. That's made even more true thanks to a recent upgrade to his Spider-Sense, which appears to allow him to fight on pure instinct, without needing conscious thought.

Avengers Volume 10 will see the public mood turn against superheroes, and Spider-Man is more used to being hated by the media than most. However, he's likely to be more vulnerable than usual, as previews of the upcoming Spider-Man #1000 have shown that his beloved Aunt May will forget him after suffering a stroke, robbing him of the person who has traditionally been his strongest tie to civilian life.

Wolverine (aka Logan)

The only other member who equals Spider-Man's star power, Wolverine boasts enhanced senses, a powerful healing factor and vicious claws. His bones coated with unbreakable Adamantium, Wolverine also has limited immunity to telepathic attacks.

Recent issues of Wolverine's solo series have seen him reclaiming his powers after being stripped of them. While he's mostly back up to speed, he is currently lacking adamantium on the claws of his right hand, exposing their natural bone. While this makes them more prone to breaking, it also gives him a weapon that can't be controlled by foes like Magneto.

Power Man (aka Luke Cage)

With enhanced strength and bulletproof skin, Luke Cage is a classic street-level hero, but he also has experience leading the Avengers, heading the team during Brian Michael Bendis' celebrated New Avengers run. However, Luke hasn't been using his powers much over the last few years.

Since 2022, Luke Cage has been the mayor of NYC, but it looks like that's about to end. A preview of Avengers #1 shows Luke being challenged by a mayoral candidate running on anti-superhero rhetoric, reluctant to even be seen with Spider-Man. It's hard to imagine him joining the Avengers unless he already lost.

On the other hand, it was Zdarsky and Checchetto who gave Luke the job in Devil's Reign, so it may be that they want to explore this status quo - especially since Marvel hasn't done much with Luke over the last decade.

Daredevill (aka Matt Murdock)

Possessing enhanced senses and the ninja training to wield them expertly, Daredevil is one of Marvel's definitive street heroes. The character technically joined the Avengers back in 2011, but didn't get to spend much time on the team before the events of Avengers vs X-Men turned the Marvel Universe on its head.

After dying and being reborn, Matt Murdock became a priest for a short time, and is currently a teacher at Empire State University in his solo series. Having persuaded his old flame - the world-class assassin Elektra - to pursue redemption, Matt is no longer the only Daredevil, and if he joins the Avengers, the Woman Without Fear will likely help pick up the slack in Hell's Kitchen.

Captain Marvel (aka Carol Danvers)

Able to channel radiation thanks to her unique alien-hybrid biology, Captain Marvel is one of Marvel's strongest heroes, with abilities including flight, energy projection and seldom-used precognitive abilities. In emergency situations she can also 'go Binary,' unlocking a godlike form with the power of a star.

Recent previews of Avengers #1 show Carol disheartened after the events of Avengers: Armageddon, arguing that without the Avengers she doesn't know who she is. Thankfully, she won't have to find out.

Captain Marvel is a likely leader for this new iteration of the Avengers, having held the role for the longest period and the most recently. She's also traditionally the team's powerhouse, though that title now goes to someone else...

Miracleman (aka David Colton)

The mystery sixth member of the new Avengers roster, David Colton is a failed Super-Soldier who temporarily served as the Captain America of the 2000s. Though upgraded with new powers by an 'Origin Box' from another reality, David has a weak heart which acts as his one true vulnerability.

David recently discovered the origin of his powers, taking on the codename 'Miracleman' and embracing godlike strength beyond even Captain Marvel (literally - when the two fought, he crushed Carol in seconds.)

Traditionally, Miracleman has immense psionic powers which enhance his body to impossible levels, with the word 'KIMOTA!' transforming him into an invulnerable form with a super-brain capable of telepathy, telekinesis and beyond-genius-level intelligence.

The powers also have a consciousness-altering component, with Colton admitting he feels compelled to change the world for the better, perhaps more than the Avengers traditionally attempt to do. During Avengers: Armageddon, Colton tried to deconstruct all the world's nukes - fans don't yet know the full fallout of this decision.

With all that power, it's incredibly worrying that David Colton has an anger problem. His time as Captain America ended in slaughter when he killed a group of enemy combatants, losing control of his then far lesser powers. Will the new Avengers recruit Miracleman for his power, or to keep him under control?

The Villains: Mephisto and the Adjudicator

Those are the heroes who will define The Avengers' new era, but what about the villains? Very little is known about the antagonists for this run, but there are a few hard facts. Kaare Andrews' variant cover for Avengers #1 shows the team being menaced by Mephisto, while contextless preview pages (above) show the team clashing with angel-like attackers.

Marvel has also shared Marco Checchetto's concept art of hammer-wielding villain the Adjudicator, who appears similar in design to the angels. In this context, it seems like Avengers Volume 10's first arc may drop the team into a conflict between Heaven and Hell, challenging them at the very highest level from issue 1.

Avengers' New Era Begins This November

While fans originally speculated that this new Avengers roster would essentially be a street-level reboot, Miracleman is a game-changing addition. With David Colton and Carol Danvers, the Avengers have two of the universe's strongest beings on their roster, with enough raw strength to take on Thanos himself.

This November, Avengers Volume 10 will pit a new version of Earth's Mightiest Heroes against a range of villains, as Spider-Man, Wolverine, Miracleman and more fight to keep the Avengers legacy alive.
