Martin Short's show Only Murders in the Building not facing delays after his daughter's death

Martin Short's recent family loss has not affected the filming schedule for his show, Only Murders in the Building.

Short's eldest daughter, Katherine Hartley Short, died at the age of 42 by suicide at her Los Angeles home on Monday, February 23.

In the wake of her death, Short, 75, has cancelled a number of his comedy shows with his co-star Steve Martin, 80, and skipped the 2026 Actor Awards despite two nominations.

However, his and Martin's hit Hulu series - which also stars Selena Gomez - is not currently in production, according to TMZ.

Because the upcoming season is set to film in London, the cast and crew will not be gearing up to film for another couple months, a source told the publication.

The upcoming production schedule has not been affected by Katherine's death, the insider said.

The show was renewed for a sixth season in October 2025.

Only Murders in the Building follows three New York City neighbors - Short, Martin and Gomez - who bond over true-crime podcasts.

When someone in their building is killed, they investigate the case themselves. Each season focuses on a new murder and new suspects.

Short stars as theater director Oliver Putnam, Gomez plays sharp-witted Mabel Mora and Martin stars as retired-actor Charles-Haden Savage.

On Monday, Short was noticeably absent from the 32nd Annual Actor Awards, formerly known as the SAG Awards, despite being nominated for two awards.

Short's absence was confirmed during the ceremony, when Jenna Ortega began reading the nominees in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series category.

Short was nominated alongside Adam Brody from Nobody Wants This, Ted Danson from Inside Man, and Seth Rogen and Ike Barinholtz, both of whom star in The Studio.

The other four nominees were all in the audience and had cameras trained on them as soon as their names were read, but Short was represented only by a still photo on screen once his name came up.

Seth Rogen ultimately won the award, though Short was up for another honor, Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, for which he was nominated alongside his Only Murders In The Building co-stars Martin and Gomez.

None of the show's lead trio would have been on hand to accept the award, as Martin and Gomez also skipped the ceremony out of solidarity with Short, according to People.

Short previously won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series, when he and his co-stars were also honored with Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Short and Martin were set to take the stage this weekend in Milwaukee and Minneapolis for their comedy tour, titled The Best of Steve Martin and Martin Short.

However, both venues announced on Tuesday that the shows have been postponed.

Pabst Theater Group shared a statement on their website that read, 'Due to unforeseen circumstances, Steve Martin & Martin Short's show, originally scheduled for Friday, February 27th in Milwaukee, has been postponed.'

'Tickets will be honored for a future rescheduled date. We will be in contact with further news when it is available.'

Short and Martin's upcoming stop at The Fabulous Fox theater in St. Louis, Missouri, on October 10 was also postponed.

The two also have tour dates scheduled in March, April, and September. Those have not yet been officially postponed.

After police revealed that Short's daughter Katherine had died by suicide, his celebrity friends rushed to his side to comfort him, including Martin and their fellow Only Murders In The Building co-star Meryl Streep.

Following his daughter's death, a representative for Short issued a statement: 'It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short. The Short family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.'

Last week, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) confirmed that Katherine had 'not been heard from in 24 hours' before her friend called police.

Foul play was ruled out by homicide detectives who responded to the scene of Katherine's death, the law enforcement sources said.

Katherine, who held a master's degree from the University of Southern California, was a licensed clinical social worker and worked with a mental health charity.

She was last seen publicly with her father while celebrating her 40th birthday in 2023 at the Grand Master Recorders in Hollywood, accompanied by a group including Catherine O'Hara, Bo Welch, Joni Mitchell, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn.
