Martin Scorsese and Jennifer Lawrence's recent movie is finding success after its Oscar snub.
Best known for directing crime classics like Taxi Driver (1976), Goodfellas (1990), and The Departed (2006), Scorsese remains active in Hollywood as a director and producer. Most recently, he released Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), a critical darling. Lawrence, on the other hand, after getting her big break with the Hunger Games movies, continues to make bold choices as an actor, recently starring in Don't Look Up (2021), Causeway (2022), and No Hard Feelings (2023), as well as an underrated 2025 psychological thriller.
After debuting to little fanfare last year, Die My Love is now the number one movie on Mubi worldwide. Produced by Lawrence and Scorsese and starring Lawrence, the film ranks ahead of titles like Irreversible (2002), Sirāt (2025), The Secret Agent (2025), and No Other Choice (2025).
Directed by Lynne Ramsay, Die My Love features Lawrence as Grace, a young mother suffering from post-partum depression who spirals into madness after moving into an old house with her husband. Robert Pattinson costars as Jackson, Grace's husband, with Nick Nolte, Sissy Spacek, and LaKeith Stanfield making up the supporting cast.
Die My Love was met with a broadly positive reception upon its release. The film is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 75% critics' score. The Popcornmeter is lower, however, at a poor 46%.
ScreenRant's Die My Love review by Graeme Guttmann is more positive at eight out of 10. Guttmann praises Lawrence's career-defining performance and Ramsay's powerful direction, as well as the film's nuanced portrayal of a co-dependent relationship. He writes:
Ramsay doesn't shy away from the flaws of her characters and this corner of rural Montana is filled with people who are struggling to hide their deepest desires and darkest impulses. Those that are the best at it are also those who can so easily feign domestic bliss in the face of chaos. What's so strikingly beautiful about Die, My Love, though, is Ramsay and Lawrence's willingness to lay it all bare and show a harsher side to love and motherhood, one that is often overlooked.
Lawrence's performance was a common point of praise across reviews, even when critics were mixed on other aspects of the movie. Upon release, there was buzz that Lawrence could be nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. Ultimately, however, the film received not a single nomination.
This lack of Oscars recognition followed a disappointing run at the box office. Made on a reported budget of $24 million and distributed in the U.S. by Mubi, Die My Love grossed only about $12.2 million worldwide, comprising $5.5 million domestically and $6.7 million from overseas.
For Scorsese, Die My Love is one of many projects he has produced over the past few years. Recently, he's been credited as a producer on projects like Apple TV's Cape Fear series remake, Saquon (2025), In the Hand of Dante (2025), Late Fame (2025), and Homebound (2025).
Though it may have fallen short commercially and been snubbed at the Oscars, Die My Love is clearly now connecting with audiences on streaming. Lawrence and Pattinson continue to star in unique films after both getting their starts in young adult adaptations, with Hunger Games and Twilight, respectively, and Ramsay's latest is further proof of their impressive range.
