Married At First Sight's Bec and Gia's icy reunion, a very unexpected hook-up and one couple well and truly put split rumours to rest: All the inside gossip from ALI DAHER's wild birthday bash

1 hour ago 12

A MAFS groom spots his ex-television bride across the room, a couple makes their very public debut, and somebody arrives fresh from an unexpected hook-up with another reality star. Welcome to my 35th birthday party.

The champagne was flowing at Dry Martini in Sydney on Saturday night as an army of reality television royalty (and a few washed-up ones) descended on the glamorous venue to help me celebrate another lap around the sun.

The caviar was cold, the martinis were colder, but the guest list was piping hot.

And there was one big question hanging over the room - what would happen when MAFS arch-rivals Bec Zacharia and Gia Fleur were forced to reunite?

The short answer? Absolutely nothing.

And somehow, that was even more dramatic.

Bec and Gia's cold war enters a new ice age

The champagne was flowing at Dry Martini in Sydney on Saturday night as an army of reality television royalty (and a few washed-up ones) descended on the glamorous venue to help me celebrate another lap around the sun

Bec and Gia went out of their way to avoid one another at all costs, positioning themselves at opposite ends of the party as though an invisible restraining order was in place.

If Gia moved left, Bec moved right. If Bec headed for the bar, Gia suddenly had the  urge to head to the media wall for some selfies.

The pair never exchanged words and barely appeared to acknowledge that the other was in the room.

'They will never be friends again,' one well-placed partygoer told me.

'Gia was prepared to put things behind her, but hell will freeze over before Bec lets that happen. Don't expect to see Bec at Alan and Gia's wedding.'

Their frosty reunion came just hours after an excruciating encounter at Sydney Airport on Friday, when the women arrived only minutes apart.

They briefly said hello and then went their separate ways - an interaction so painfully awkward, it barely qualified as small talk.

By Saturday, even those strained pleasantries had disappeared.

Bec, who was making her first major appearance following her controversial 'Barbie Waist' surgery in Bali, looked sensational in a sheer, shimmering gown that showcased her newly cinched waist and toned stomach.

Pregnant Gia, meanwhile, positively glowed in a fiery red sequin minidress as she proudly showed off her growing baby bump while attending with her partner Alan Wallace.

Both women looked fabulous. Neither looked remotely interested in a reconciliation.

Bec's Love Triangle surprise

Bec arrived at my party with another intriguing storyline already following her.

The previous evening, she had attended 2DayFM's Bring Back the Cross event at Mansions Sydney alongside fellow MAFS brides Awhina Rutene and Rebecca Zukowski.

Bec and Awhina both showed off their newly cinched waists in skin-tight dresses, with their post-surgery corsets visible beneath their outfits.

But the real action was taking place on the dance floor, where Bec was spotted becoming very cosy with Love Triangle star Yannick Samarasinghe.

'I've just seen Bec hooking up with that bloke the whole night,' the eyewitness said.

'I thought they were boyfriend and girlfriend, but someone has just told me that they met tonight.'

Now that is what I call efficient networking.

Whether it was the beginning of a new reality television power couple or simply a very enthusiastic introduction remains to be seen.

But one thing is certain - Bec's post-MAFS era is showing no signs of becoming boring.

Rebecca finds herself caught in the crossfire

Things were also distinctly uncomfortable for Rebecca Zukowski, who until now had managed the near-impossible task of avoiding publicly choosing a side in the Bec-versus-Gia war.

Rebecca, however, insisted the edit had nothing to do with it.

When I asked her about the awkward reunion, she struggled to pinpoint exactly what had changed - other than the atmosphere.

'It was nothing like that at all. It was just weird,' she told me.

'She never used to be like that with me. I went over to say hello to her, but it was just weird.'

And if a reality star uses the word 'weird' that many times, trust me, it was weird.

Safe to say, Gia and Rebecca probably won't be scheduling a girls' lunch anytime soon.

Gia's ride-or-die finally makes the guest list

Gia instead spent the evening attached at the hip to her self-described ride-or-die, Juliette Chae. Both pictured

The pair arrived hand-in-hand and appeared to be having the time of their lives - a particularly sweet display after Juliette famously failed to score an invitation to Gia's birthday bash in January.

No invite in January. Joint entrance in August. Reality television friendships move faster than Sydney property prices.

And, credit where it is due, there was no drama from Juliette.

Perhaps she isn't so bad after all.

There was, however, one potentially explosive complication - Juliette's former MAFS husband, Joel Moses, was also in the room.

Juliette visibly freaked out for a moment when she spotted him, and given their very public war of words, I briefly wondered whether my birthday cake was about to become collateral damage.

Joel has previously branded Juliette 'fake and insincere' in an explosive interview and said elsewhere that he regarded his marriage to her as a 'total nightmare'.

Joel appeared far more interested in enjoying himself with fellow groom Steven Danyluk , (pictured) who had been paired with Rachel Gilmore during the experiment

Fortunately, the exes took the Bec-and-Gia approach to conflict resolution - stay on opposite sides of the venue and pretend the other person does not exist.

Joel appeared far more interested in enjoying himself with fellow groom Steven Danyluk, who had been paired with Rachel Gilmore during the experiment.

Steven - or Steve-O, as he is affectionately known - proudly showed off his whopping weight loss and looked happier and healthier than ever.

Rachel declined her invitation, with insiders telling me she had no desire to be in the same room as her former television husband.

Probably wise. My bartenders were already busy enough.

Sam Stanton hard-launches his new boyfriend

There was a much happier romantic development elsewhere in the room as popular MAFS groom Sam Stanton made his first major public appearance with his new boyfriend, Ilia.

The Adelaide-based fitness professional looked completely smitten as he posed alongside his Sydney-based project manager beau.

Sam wrapped an arm tenderly around Ilia as they sipped matching drinks, laughed with friends and mingled with the crowd.

After keeping the relationship relatively low-key - aside from a recent social media hard launch - the couple appeared relaxed, affectionate and very much together.

It marked Sam's first major public romance following his high-profile split from television husband Chris Robinson, and he looked happier than I have seen him in a long time.

Later, Sam shared a warm embrace with Bec before the former co-stars laughed and caught up together.

Some MAFS relationships may end at the final vows, but the group chat apparently lives forever.

Evelyn and Duncan finally silence the rumours

Evelyn Ellis and Duncan James also used the evening to deliver an effective response to months of split speculation - they turned up together and looked utterly loved-up.

The couple had not been seen publicly together for some time, leading fans to question whether their relationship had quietly fizzled out while Evelyn travelled around Europe and Duncan remained in Sydney focusing on work.

But there was no sign of trouble in paradise at Dry Martini.

Evelyn turned heads in a sharply tailored grey blazer dress with a daring neckline, sheer knee-high stockings and black heels, while Duncan looked dapper in a black jacket and white T-shirt.

They stayed close, posed happily for photographs and appeared entirely at ease in one another's company.

Evelyn recently laughed off the breakup rumours, insisting people seemed unable to comprehend that couples could have separate interests and identities.

Saturday night proved her point.

They may not be joined at the hip on Instagram, but they were certainly joined at mine.

Current and former MAFS brides took the opportunity to film content for their social media on the night

Sunny was radiant in a strapless red minidress with a cream wrap, while Bear kept things relaxed in a suede jacket and light trousers.

As for the refreshments, nobody was going thirsty on my watch.

And finally… guess who?

Which MAFS groom was spotted leaving the celebrations with not one, but TWO mystery women?

And which Love Island star was seen slipping out of a MAFS bride's hotel room in the early hours of the morning? What happened after they left is anybody's guess.
