Mark Consuelos is saying goodbye to the man who raised him.

The Live With Kelly and Mark cohost struggled to maintain his composure as he shared that his dad Saul Consuelos died March 23 following a lengthy health battle.

“Two weeks ago today, my father passed away after a long bout with illness,” Mark said on the April 6 episode of the daytime talk show. “He passed away peacefully. Gosh, such a fascinating man.”

The 55-year-old’s wife Kelly Ripa—with whom he shares kids Michael Consuelos, 28, Lola Consuelos, 24, and Joaquin Consuelos, 23—emphasized that their family had been “blessed” by the late patriarch’s life.

“You have been blessed more because you knew him your whole life,” she told Mark during their chat. “I only got to know my father-in-law for 31 years, but they were the best 31 years of my life. I can honestly say I will miss him every day for the rest of my life, as I know you will, as our children will.”

Kelly, also 55, went on to call Saul—who immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico as a teenager—“the greatest person I’ve ever known” before turning to her husband of 29 years and adding, “He really is so symbolic of everything you are.”

From there, Mark reflected on the lessons and skills his dad imparted to him during his lifetime—including his handiness, which Kelly confirmed—while Kelly highlighted his close bond with his grandkids.

“I keep explaining to my kids how lucky they were,” she told viewers. “They still have three grandparents. They took it particularly hard. This is their first loss that they’ve ever experienced in their lives.”

As for Mark, he revealed that he “was able to thankfully get down there and say goodbye” to his dad amid rehearsals for his Broadway debut in Fallen Angels. At the same time, the play has been “a welcome distraction” from his grief.

“I knew I had to keep on going, especially during that time,” he explained. “It's been great. I had such a good time doing it. I know he's there watching and he’s able to be part of it.”
