Mariah Carey rushed to her mother's bedside after completing her eight date stint of her Las Vegas residency.

The singer, 55, finished her last show of The Celebration of Mimi at Dolby Live at Park MGM on August 10.

In a heartbreaking statement, Mariah announced the deaths of her mum Patricia, 87, and her estranged sister Alison, 63, and said they passed away on the same day

The singer took some comfort in the fact she spent her mother's final week with her, which came just days after completing the latest stint of her Las Vegas residency.

Mariah told People: 'My heart is broken that I've lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.

'I feel blessed that I was able to spend the last week with my mum before she passed.

'I appreciate everyone's love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.'

There was no further information on the causes of Patricia and Alison's deaths.

Just two weeks ago, Mariah marked wrapping up her latest eight date leg of The Celebration of Mimi on Instagram.

Sharing a photo on stage with all her backing dancers and crew, she wrote: 'I had the most fun with you this summer in Las Vegas on “The Celebration of Mimi”! Thank you to all who came out here even in 120 degrees.

'Thank you to my irreplaceable team - on and off stage, can’t wait to do this again in January 2025! Xoxo MC'.

The grieving singer is not due to perform until January 31 for the Las Vegas shows.

Mariah had a famously fraught relationship with her mother and sister over the years - and was estranged from Alison, a recovering drug addict, for three decades before her death.

Patricia was married to Mariah's father, Afro-Venezuelan Alfred Roy Carey, until she was aged three. Mariah's father died at age 72 in 2002.

Her parents' interracial marriage upset her mother's side of the family and they later divorced.

As well as substance abuse, Alison endured homelessness throughout her life. She was also HIV positive.

Alison's close friend and carer Dave Baker said she had been struggling with her health in recent weeks.

They told The US Sun: 'Alison was on home hospice care for the last three weeks of her life.'

He added that she had a problem with internal organs before continuing: 'I have known her for nine years and as her friend and in recent months her carer I will miss her greatly.

'Farewell Alison. May you now find peace, your tortured soul forever free from earthly pain.'

In 2016 Alison made an impassioned plea to her famous sibling with DailyMail.com, begging her to mend the rift between them and help save her life, saying: 'Mariah I love you, I desperately need your help.'

She was in dire need of financial support as she battled back to health following a devastating home invasion attack that left her brain damaged and seriously ill. She had been in and out of the hospital.

In addition to Mariah and Alison, Patricia and Roy also had son Morgan, now 64.

Julliard-educated Patricia was an opera singer and vocal coach.

Mariah opened up about complicated relationships with her mom and sister in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning Of Mariah Carey.

'Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It's never been only black-and-white — it's been a whole rainbow of emotions,' she explained.

She said their relationship was a 'prickly rope of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration, and disappointment'.

The book was still dedicated to Patricia: 'And to Pat, my mother, who, through it all, I do believe actually did the best she could,' the singer penned in the dedication.

'I will love you the best I can, always.'

In 2009, the pop star told CBS Sunday Morning that her mom was the first person to inspire her.

'My mother was definitely the first person who inspired me. She was an opera singer. She still sings,' she noted at the time.

When asked by journalist Troy Roberts how she became aware of her musical talent, she answered: 'Well, my mother tells a story. She said that she was doing Rigoletto, and she kept rehearsing one part over and over and over.

'And then, she messed up. And I said, "No, it goes like this," and sang it to her.'

Four years ago Mariah reflected on being raised by Patricia, writing in her book that their tethering 'has caused me so much pain and confusion.'

She explained, 'For my sanity and peace of mind, my therapist encouraged me to literally rename and reframe my family.

'My mother became Pat to me, Morgan my ex-brother and Alison my ex-sister. I had to stop expecting them to one day miraculously become the mommy, big brother and big sister I fantasized about.'

In 2020 Mariah alleged Alison who she described as 'troubled and traumatized ... tried to sell [her] out to a pimp.'

In a passage in her book Carey said of her sister Allison: 'When I was 12 years old, my sister drugged me with valium, offered me a pinky nail full of cocaine, inflicted me with third degree burns and tried to sell me out to a pimp.'
