Malcolm In The Middle star Frankie Muniz has announced his shock split from wife Paige Price after '10 beautiful years together.'

In a statement posted to his Instagram, Muniz revealed they made the decision to divorce following a 'period of separation that we kept private.'

Muniz, 40, and Price wed in 2020 and have one child together, five-year-old son Mauz.

The actor announced their split with a 'life update' featuring a photo of the family of three.

'Following a period of separation that we kept private, Paige and I have decided to move forward with ending our marriage,' Muniz wrote.

'After 10 beautiful years together, we’ve grown in ways that made us realize our relationship feels most natural and strong as a deep friendship and as co-parents. We share an incredible son who remains the center of our world, and we’re both happier, stronger parents because of the love and growth we’ve shared.

'I’m endlessly grateful to Paige for everything she’s done for me and our family. She put her own dreams on hold so I could chase mine, and she was always my biggest supporter. That foundation of respect and friendship isn’t going anywhere. We’re excited to keep building Muniz Racing together and to co-parent our boy with the same teamwork and love we’ve always had.

'We’re closing one chapter with gratitude and opening the next with bright futures ahead, for us as individuals and especially for our son. Thank you for the love and support.'

The Daily Mail has contacted Muniz's representatives as well as Price for comment.

Muniz and Price first started dating in 2016 and became engaged two years later.

'you’re more than a dream to me,' Price said at the time when announcing their engagement. 'You teach me every day, you compliment me when I’m at my worst, and you push me past the edge but you’re there to pick me up when I start showing signs of falling.

'I love every piece of you,' she continued. 'And I appreciate you more and more every single day. I truly cannot wait to be your wife.'

The proposal took place at the Pinal Fairgrounds & Event Center in Casa Grande, Arizona.

Muniz starred on the TV series Malcolm In The Middle from 2000-2006 alongside a cast including Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Erik Per Sullivan and Justin Berfield.

The show became rebooted this year into the mini-series, Middle: Life's Still Unfair.

The four-episode story revolved around Malcolm's parents Hal and Lois who demanded that he and his daughter attend their 40th anniversary party.

Muniz was at the height of his career when he decided to quit acting and pursue a career in racing.

The star notably put his Hollywood career aside to focus on race car driving, and also was briefly a drummer for a band called You Hang Up from 2012 until 2014

'I called my agents and managers like, "I don't want to do any acting right now. I'm gonna focus on racing,"' he said on I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

'Even when I was I was nominated for awards and stuff like that. I'd go to the award shows and I literally felt like such an outcast. I didn't feel like "Oh, this is this is my thing."
