EXCLUSIVE: Mads Reuther and Saku Taittonen are the latest additions to the cast of Bloodaxe, Prime Video’s Viking drama series starring Xavier Molyneux and Jessica Madsen.

Reuther plays Jarl Sigurd, the Jarl of Hladir, a scheming Norwegian jarl and ally of Haakon (Levi Miller), the younger half-brother of Erik Bloodaxe (Molyneux). Taittonen is Knut, one of the brothers of Gunnhild (Madsen) — a warrior struggling with conflicting loyalties to his sister and their father, King Gorm of Denmark (Rune Temte).

As previously announced, the cast also includes Karlis Arnolds Avots, Rod Hallett, Alina Tomnikov, Sisse Marie, Jesper Christensen, Marc Rissmann, Kai Luke Brümmer, and Arthur McBain.

Created, written, and executive produced by Vikings creator Michael Hirst and his son, Horatio Hirst, Bloodaxe follows Erik Bloodaxe (Molyneux), one of history’s most famous Norse raiders, and his formidable wife, Gunnhild (Madsen), as they fight for the throne of Norway. In the process, the land is torn apart by fierce rivals, shifting loyalties, and bloody betrayals. With war looming and chaos consuming the kingdom —drawing in the ruthless kings of other Scandinavian countries and even a powerful English ruler — the stage is set for a thundering, cataclysmic, compelling, and utterly magical new Norse saga.

The show is produced by MGM Television, a division of Amazon MGM Studios. Michael and Horatio Hirst wrote the show and are showrunning, as well as executive producing alongside Morgan O’Sullivan under his O’Sullivan Productions label, Steve Stark under his Toluca Pictures label, Arturo Interian, John Weber, Sheila Hockin, and Fred Toye.

Reuther’s previously been seen in films like Thomas Vinterberg’s The Commune, as well as series like Ride Upon the Storm for Danish National Television, the romantic drama Perfekte Steder, and the miniseries Chemo Brain. Other more recent work for the Danish actor includes the series Secrets We Keep, and the feature film Borderline directed by Marco Sandeman. He is repped internationally by Subtitle Talent Agency, and domestically by Team Players.

A Finnish actor known for roles in projects like Levoton Tuhkimo (Restless Cinderella) and Helsinki Syndrome, Taittonen is repped internationally by Subtitle Talent Agency, and domestically by Lisa Richard Nordic.
