Madonna has reportedly lined up embattled Britney Spears to make an iconic comeback collaboration on her new album.

The Queen of Pop, 67, is said to have reached out to the Princess of Pop, 44, in December and January in hopes of writing together and getting a studio session in.

A collaboration between the two superstars would be huge for the pop universe which would be 23 years after they kissed on stage at the MTV VMAs and had a number two hit single, Me Against The Music.

Now, Madonna has been busy working on her new album, a follow up to her 2019 record Madame X, which is expected to drop later this year.

Sources have claimed Madonna believe Britney could bring something incredible to her new album however, the Princess of Pop has so far refused to engage.

A source told The Sun: 'Madonna believes Britney is not just a brilliant artist, but a lovely person. They had a great time in the past working together and had touched on working together again.

'Madonna felt that Britney could bring something to her new album or perhaps join for a writing idea.

'She feels a connection to Britney and has been a vocal supporter of her, despite all the concern about her welfare in the last couple of years.

'Madonna is one of the few people on the planet to understand the stresses and troubles of being one of the most famous people in the world.'

Daily Mail have contacted Madonna and Britney's representatives for comment.

Previously Britney has said she is unsure whether she will return to music but she did have a number three hit in 2022, duetting with Elton John on Hold Me Closer, following the end of her 13-year conservatorship.

Meanwhile, Madonna has been busy with acting as she made a cameo in Venice for the Apple TV series The Studio, in which she will play herself in a storyline inspired by the making of her scrapped biopic.

Madonna was seen in the city filming with Ozark actress Julia Garner, 32, last month for season two of The Studio.

The singer brought back one of her most iconic moments, recreating the famous gondola scene from her 1984 hit Like a Virgin with the star of her upcoming biopic, Julia.

Madonna and Julia rocked matching outfits both sporting striped white and navy T-shirts, with navy blazers and straw hats.

Madonna's role on the upcoming instalment of The Studio marks her return to the screen after two decades.

Her last major acting role was a voice part in the 2006 animated feature Arthur and the Invisibles, from French director Luc Besson.

She previously won a Golden Globe for starring in the 1995 movie musical Evita.

The last live-action acting job listed on her IMDb page is the cameo she made in a 2003 episode of the hit sitcom Will & Grace.

Seth Rogen co-created and stars on The Studio as a stressed out studio honcho, with a cast including Ike Barinholtz, Chase Sui Wonders and Kathryn Hahn.

Among the stars of the series was comedy icon Catherine O'Hara, who died at age 71 in January after a battle with rectal cancer.

Madonna teased her part in the upcoming project last week with an Instagram Stories photo of herself leafing through a script on a gondola.

It was captioned: 'The Italian Job.'

She simultaneously reached cinema and music stardom in the 1980s while starring opposite Rosanna Arquette in the comedy Desperately Seeking Susan.

Arquette recalled in a Guardian interview last year that the Michigan native 'exploded' into worldwide fame as a singer 'as we were making' the film in 1985.

'It was pretty intense and overwhelming for her, but she handled it great. She wasn’t a global superstar yet. She became one while we were doing that,' she said.

'She had hits, but then I remember looking at her on the cover of Rolling Stone on set and thinking: “Wow!”' Arquette recalled.
