Madonna the singer dressed as Madonna the Mother of Christ in a cheeky new Halloween costume she showed off on Instagram.
Over the course of her career she has often mischievously played with Catholic imagery, resulting in multiple condemnations by the Vatican.
The 66-year-old returned to the theme for the over-the-top look she wore Thursday night, dressing as what she called 'the Crying Madonna.'
She appeared to be tweaking the Weeping Madonna, a controversial phenomenon in which people claim to have seen statues of the Virgin Mary shedding real tears.
For her festivities that evening, she was joined by her latest boyfriend Akeem Morris, 28, as well as friends including Salma Hayek.

The Like A Prayer singer enlisted the help of professional makeup artist Marcello Gutierrez, who gave her Virgin Mary a set of blood-red tears.
Madonna's costume included a floor-length white gown with a plunging neckline that served up a generous helping of cleavage.
She draped a white lace veil over her signature blonde locks and slipped on a set of fishnet gloves to bring the ensemble together.
The Papa Don't Preach hitmaker was festooned with jewelry, much of it dripping with crosses, and the whole Halloween confection was topped with a halo.
Specifically, Madonna selected an elaborate headpiece made to resemble sun rays bursting out from a circlet of golden roses.
In one dramatic picture, Madonna could be seen contorting her face into a sob and lifting her hands to her cheeks, a rosary slung over her fingers.
'For Halloween, I was the Crying Madonna………… All my friends came to pray with me,' the Like A Virgin singer wrote in her caption.
Her guests wore a wide variety of costumes, but her boyfriend's was coordinated with hers - Akeem was swathed in full-length monk's vestments.
