Lupita Nyong'o shocks in Halloween-inspired outfit attending new musical based on cult horror movie

Lupita Nyong'o got in the Halloween spirit to take in the new Off-Broadway play Teeth on Wednesday night in New York City.

She looked spooky and gorgeous in a black velvet tuxedo jacket over a black crop top with black pants 

The 12 Years a Slave actress – who confirmed her breakup from Joshua Jackson earlier this month – accessorized with an elaborate gold neckpiece that accentuated her elegant neck.

The Black Panther star, 41, added a witchy white hairpiece and long, pointed white nails to her ensemble. She also wore solid white contact lenses for a super scary effect.

The new musical, which has been called 'a coming-of-rage comedy', is based on the 2007 horror film of the same name.

The synopsis for the play reads: 'Dawn O’Keefe is an evangelical Christian teen with a powerful secret not even she understands – when men violate her, her body bites back. That’s not a metaphor.  

'Based on the cult classic film of the same name,' Teeth 'is a fierce, rapturous, and savagely entertaining new musical crackling with irrepressible desire and ancient rage – a dark comedy conjuring the legend of one girl whose sexual curse is also her salvation.'

Lupita's night of culture comes almost a month after she confirmed her split from Doctor Odyssey star Joshua Jackson, 46.

The Wild Robot star said she is not dating at the moment as she simply doesn't have eyes for anyone but her cat Yoyo.

'My love for my cat is singular. If I'm ever so lucky to be in a romantic relationship again, it'll be because of him,' she said in an interview with Harper's Bazaar UK. 

'I was ready to shut that door and lock it and bolt it. He has ensured that my heart remains open.'

She got the tabby cat a year ago and posted about it on Instagram. 'Introducing my new companion, Yoyo!,' she wrote.

'I have historically been afraid of cats, but when my life was altered instantly recently, a little voice whispered to me that it was time to embrace change and new possibilities.

'So, a dear friend (shoutout Palmer Hefferan!) held my hand through the process and took me to visit my first animal shelters. 

'I fostered Yoyo from Best Friends Adoption Center, and 3 days into it, I knew I could not give him up.'

She went on to list all the things – both practical and humorous – she'd learned about her feline companion so far.

'I never understood people whose phones were full of photos and videos of their pets - now I am one of those people! It may look like I saved Yoyo, but really, Yoyo is saving me,' she concluded.

In the Harper's article, Lupita also said she considers herself to be a 'childless cat lady' and she will be casting her vote for Kamala Harris.
