Lupita Jones On Why She Felt “Humiliated” On ‘La Casa De Los Famosos’ & Why She Doesn’t Regret Being On Telemundo Reality Series

Lupita Jones is used to winning competitions, as she did in Miss Universe 1991, taking the crown for Mexico. However, in her latest stint on La Casa de los Famosos, she was the second celebrity housemate evicted.

Jones was the first cast member confirmed for Season 6 of the reality show and was voted out by the public on the second week.

“I was very surprised because I had high expectations of getting further [in the game], but the decision was made that I would be the second one eliminated and it’s fine,” she told Deadline about being evicted.

Once Jones got her phone back, she told us she resisted reading what the audience was saying about her, not knowing if it would be positive or negative.

“My husband told me, ‘You have to read the comments,'” she said. “He told me, ‘[The audience] didn’t leave you alone. They were always with you. There were teams from my fellow housemates that were there [voting] with mine, and that made me feel warm to be recognized by the people that value what I had to offer during this time.”

The beauty queen’s expectations were not met as she felt she would make it further in the game, adding, “I don’t feel satisfied.”

Although she was the second housemate eliminated, Jones says that she’s “conscious that in these types of situations you win by losing. I don’t know what would’ve happened if the situation in that house had continued under the conditions that they’re in.”

The new season of La Casa de los Famosos has been explosive since Day 1, with many housemates having strong personalities and reality-show experience. As a beauty queen, Jones protected her image and didn’t partake in the shouting matches between Laura Zapata and Oriana Marzoli.

Jones said she tried to maintain her “mental” state at the center, and during times that she did have to share something was “clear” with “my opinions” and not “get caught in the fights,” adding, “I did it and I feel proud of myself in that aspect because there were many times that I would bite my tongue and told myself, ‘Lupita, don’t get caught up, don’t give them more exposure and the moment you have something to say, you’re going to do it and it will be conscice.'”

Much of the controversy generated in the house has been produced by Oriana Marzoli, who was the last remaining housemate in the elimination room alongside Jones. Sharing the spotlight with Marzoli before it was revealed she was eliminated was not something Jones enjoyed.

Following her eviction, Jones said she felt “humiliated” and clarified what she meant, saying, “When I said I felt humiliated, it wasn’t because I was eliminated, nor because the public didn’t vote for me, because I am aware they did vote for me.”

Jones further clarified that she would’ve liked to have stayed in the elimination room with fellow housemates like Sergio Mayer or Curvy, who were also nominated, and whom she could’ve “hugged goodbye.”

Despite her time on La Casa de los Famosos ending so quickly, Jones said she doesn’t regret joining the show because “I wanted the public to see me from another perspective, not just the director of beauty pageants where they always expect me to be perfect.”

“I saw this opportunity to connect with the audience in a different way,” she added.

La Casa de los Famosos airs Sunday through Friday at 7 p.m. ET on Telemundo.
