Luke Wilson Makes First Comments About Becoming a Dad After Welcoming First Baby

Luke Wilson is officially enlightened to parenthood.

Following the news that the Hawk actor welcomed his first baby with girlfriend Kendall Yates, he gave an update on life as a new dad.

"I'm doing pretty well," Wilson exclusively told E! News' Will Marfuggi at the July 9 premiere of Netflix's The Hawk. "It's nice to be out before I go back to work on my shift."

The 54-year-old added that he's "very happy about" his parenthood chapter.

His first comments on life as a dad come after multiple outlets reported that Yates, 24, had given birth to their first baby together, noting that the couple brought their newborn to a press reception for Wilson’s new Netflix series.

The duo—who were first linked in 2023—reportedly arrived at the Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, Calif., carrying their little one in a carrier and introduced their new addition to several of Wilson’s castmates, including Jimmy Tatro

Although he’s recently become a dad, The Royal Tenenbaums actor had previously expressed his desire to have kids nearly 20 years ago.

“I don’t have a girlfriend, but I wouldn’t mind one,” he admitted to People in 2007. “I definitely want [kids] at some point.”

With both of his brothers already fathers themselves, Wilson added at the time that his parents would've been thrilled to add more kids to their family, noting, “I’m sure they’d love more.”

The Legally Blonde star has also referred to himself as a "fun uncle" to older brothers Andrew Wilson and Owen Wilson’s kids, and gushed about how much he enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews.

"I get along great with those guys," he said on Conan in 2020. "They’re great little kids and definitely the kind that make me want to have some kids of my own, which I should get on sooner rather than later."

Wilson went on to express a slight worry about becoming a father too late in life.

As he explained at the time, "I just don't want to be one of those dads who has to pay somebody in the neighborhood to throw a football with his kid because I can't, which I feel like I see here and there in L.A."
