Warning: This article contains spoilers for Superman & Lois season 4, episode 5.Superman & Lois season 4 shows Lois Lane discovering a way to handle Doomsday following Superman's prior defeat and death at the DC character's hands. Superman & Lois' Doomsday story is decidedly different in several ways to the conventional comic stories about the character - most crucially, changing his origin story to that of a version of the alternate world Superman known as Bizarro who is then repeatedly killed by Lex Luthor in the Superman & Lois season 3 ending in order for his revivals to warp his appearance and make him increasingly powerful.
This appears to pay off for the live-action Superman show villain, as an unleashed Doomsday is able to ultimately kill Superman. While Clark is restored back to life, his return only sets Doomsday up as more of a threat, since it seems that he still doesn't have a way to defeat his former alternate universe self, and has been at best temporarily weakened by his own revival. Luckily, Lois seems to have uncovered a way to deal with Doomsday using methods that wouldn't be possible in the same way for the Man of Steel in Superman & Lois season 4, episode 5.
Superman & Lois Season 4 Gives Lois A Unique Strategy Against Doomsday
Bizarro's Bond With His Version Of Lois Appears To Have Offered A Different Way To Deal With Him
Superman & Lois season 4, episode 5, sees Lois Lane use her history with Superman - and her alternate universe self's history with Bizarro - to appeal to him about saving her family's lives, which appears to have worked, allowing Doomsday to be negated as a threat for at least the immediate moment. After working out how Lex Luthor has been summoning Doomsday to be his lackey, Lois calls the mutated form of Bizarro, seemingly putting the pieces together that there may be more of Bizarro left in the monstrous creature than she previously believed.
Lois states she noticed that Doomsday recognized her when he returned to Earth with Clark's body, suggesting his bond with his universe's Lois had allowed him to retain some awareness of her significance to him, and that this was reflected in his reaction to the main universe's identical looking version of the character. Given Bizarro has his own children - and while his relationship with his family was estranged, he clearly cared for them still - Lois' pleading for her family seems to have gotten through to Doomsday due to these similarities, potentially strengthened by his prior psychic link to Superman himself.
Superman & Lois' Doomsday Changes Mean Lois Has An Advantage Superman Doesn't Against The Villain
Lois Is A Reminder Of Doomsday's Life Before His Transformation
Lois' similarity to her Inverse World alternate universe self immediately gives her an advantage when it comes to dealing with this Doomsday that the Man of Steel simply cannot replicate. Bizarro was willing to sacrifice his life for the chance to save his family and world from certain destruction in Superman & Lois season 2, and if any remnants of the character still remain in Doomsday even after his repeated deaths and despite his zombie-like state, they're likely to be awoken by reminders of his past life and humanity.
As an alternate universe version of the love of Kal-El's life, Lois Lane is a physical reminder of this past life, and thus the ideal figure to try and make this connection and break Doomsday free from Luthor's control. It seems she managed to do this at the end of Superman & Lois season 4, episode 5, but it seems unlikely this is the last of the matter, since Lex is shown doubling down on his grudge against Lois and Clark in the episode, and is no doubt set to try and hunt down Doomsday if he doesn't return.
Superman & Lois' Doomsday Changes Suit The DC Show's Story
Superman & Lois' Narrative Aims Work Well With Its Doomsday Changes
Given Superman & Lois aims to focus on both of the titular characters, letting Lois prevail in situations where Superman can't suits the overall goal and story of the series by showcasing her unique significance and talents alongside Clark's own. As such, changing Doomsday to be a warped version of Bizarro - and thus to have a connection with Lois that can be used to potentially pacify him - makes a lot of sense, since it also underlines how important the relationship between Clark and Lois is for the show.
With five episodes left until the conclusion of Superman & Lois, there's still plenty of time left to highlight the strengths of all of the Kent family, and display them at their best before their time on-screen is up. Hopefully, this will include showing the ways in which each individual character excels, as is the case with Lois' approach to handling Doomsday after Superman's loss to him.
