Restitcher's Stuffy and Little Big Planet's Sackboy standing together

Restitched, a passion project inspired by the LittleBigPlanet franchise and other UGC (User Generated Content) games, has just received a new trailer. Developers Trixel Creative began pre-production work on the title in 2020, and it has now reached an early Alpha stage.

Restitched is a 2.5D platforming and puzzling adventure starring the customizable plushie, Stuffy, a small bear adventuring through a big world full of obstacles. The game plans to heavily emphasize customization and level design, allowing players to create and share levels and creative projects with the community through the Steam Workshop.

Restitched is currently in the early Alpha stage of development, and dev team Trixel Creative has revealed what to expect in a new trailer posted to their YouTube channel. Trixel Creative reminds fans that the upcoming title is still rough around the edges and will have "many more rounds of polish, future additions, and general changes before a release," but the trailer gives potential fans an idea of what to expect.

Restitched Is A Fan-Made Love Letter To The UGC Genre

The Team Is Made Up Of Hobbyists And Fans Of The Genre

The new trailer is the first look at the Restitched title in over two years, and it shows that Trixel Creative has been hard at work since the game was last previewed. Trixel Creative is developing the title as an opportunity to grow and learn, and a chance to create a game that they themselves wish existed.

Releasing the trailer was a chance for the team to show the community what they had been working on, but Trixel is also using the video to communicate with fans. In a comment on the trailer, Trixel shares a heartfelt "thank you" with fans, stating that they "are very touched by your encouragement." The team writes that they've already started noting feedback that was shared in the comments, and will continue to improve and work on Restitched to turn it into a game tailor-made for the UGC community.

Our Take: Restitched Could Fill The LBP-Shaped Hole Left In The Market

LittleBigPlanet 3 Was Officially Delisted This Year

The original LittleBigPlanet, developed by Media Molecule, was released in 2008 as a PlayStation 3 launch title and has since received several sequels and spinoffs. The title starred the charming canvas-sack critter Sackboy, as he went on adventures with friends through side-scrolling platformer levels with an emphasis on creativity and self-expression.

After 10 years of live service, LittleBigPlanet 3 and all its DLC were officially delisted from the PlayStation Store in October. LittleBigPlanet may now have reached an end to its era, but Restitched looks primed to pick up right where the popular LBP franchise left off. Judging by the first look at the state of Restitched, the team looks like it's building a strong contender to be a spiritual successor to LBP 3.

It's clear from the way the team interacts with the community that this is a project by the player and for the players. As the trailer description states, Restitched is meant to be "a unique love letter to the user-generated content (UGC) genre and our many amazing experiences within it." For anyone who is missing the playful and creative space that LittleBigPlanet provided, Restitched may be one title to keep a close eye on.
