EXCLUSIVE: Bestselling author Navessa Allen’s popular dark romance novel Lights Out is set for a television adaptation at Netflix.

Hannah Schneider (Why Women Kill, Accused, The Waterfront) will adapt the novel for Netflix as showrunner, writer and executive producer. Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin and Tracey Cook will executive produce, as will Allen.

Lights Out, which became a BookTok sensation after its publication in 2024, follows trauma nurse Aly, whose dark fantasy comes true when a masked vigilante hacker, Josh, breaks into her house, leading to a steamy, dangerous romance where the lines between desire, obsession, and reality start to blur.

It is the first book in Allen’s Into Darkness series published by Slowburn, a division of Zando. The second book, Caught Up, debuted at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list upon its release in June 2025. Book 3, titled Game On, is scheduled to release on March 31.

Chernin Entertainment previously produced The Madness for Netflix as well as the acclaimed Apple TV series Chief of War, Truth Be Told, and See. Its upcoming series also include Netflix’s Age of Innocence and Man on Fire.

Allen is an author who lives on the East Coast with her husband and two spoiled cats.  Her work often explores themes of trauma, healing, and complex relationships, blending elements of dark romance with humor and character development. She is repped by CAA on behalf of the Diijkstra Agency.

Schneider is repped by CAA and Jackoway Austen Tyerman Wertheimer Mandelbaum Morris Bernstein Trattner Auerbach Hynick Jaime LeVine Sample & Klein.
