If you haven't been keeping count, The Legend of Zelda is celebrating its 40th birthday this year, and to mark the occasion, Nintendo has confirmed there are plenty of exciting releases coming down the pipeline. The big news was the Ocarina of Time Remake, which is set to launch later this year, on an as yet unannounced date.
In addition, we have seen all kinds of physical releases drop for collectors, from the final amiibo of the Wilds era to a new LP collating some of the series' most beautiful music. Now, one of the other flagship physical releases has seemingly leaked, and it could force the company to break cover and finally give us that dedicated Nintendo Direct.
NintendoOver on Reddit, one user shared a post featuring leaks that show off the design of the rumored Zelda Anniversary Switch 2 and Zelda Anniversary Pro Controller. It's a very pretty offering, with the Triforce at the center, and it could easily force the company to hand out some official confirmation before too long.
The most likely approach to that would be a dedicated Nintendo Direct, where we get a full reveal on the new controller and console, as well as Ocarina of Time. Given that the latter is meant to release this year, it's a safe assumption that we're going to get a better look at it relatively soon.
The comments also weighed in on the design, and it's safe to say that it had plenty of fans. "Damn, that’s a nice console. Not enough to get me to spend $500 on a second Switch 2, but the controller might get me," one comment read.
"Looks really cool. Wonder if they'll wait to announce it in the September Direct or sometime sooner," another added.
While a third said, "The exact amount of gold I was hoping for. I don't love the all gold ones, but get the appeal because of the zelda history. To me, full gold always seems like something that should exist after they've already done a bunch of color options."
Most predictions currently put the most likely arrival of the next Zelda Nintendo Direct at some point in September, and that would line-up well with everything we know about so far. We should also get a better look at the long-awaited movie, which is still continuing production apace without any major hiccups (as far as we know).
