John Oliver is back with more ludicrous observations and laughs next month.
HBO has set the return of his Last Week Tonight as it also prepares to launch new late-night series Neighbors.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver will return for Season 13 on February 15. There’s nothing unusual about the date, which is in line with the last 11 season premieres of the Brit’s late-night comedy show (the first season debuted in April).
Oliver generally produces 30 episodes a year running from February through November.
The Emmy-winning host ended last season with a telethon auctioning off weird memorabilia from previous episodes of the show.
The series is produced by Avalon and Peyance Productions and exec produced by Oliver, Tim Carvell, Liz Stanton, Jon Thoday, and James Taylor. Paul Pennolino directs.
Elsewhere, on HBO’s February line-up is another new title: Neighbors.
The six-part series “examines stories of absurd, outrageous, and dramatic real-life residential conflicts from a wide range of larger-than-life characters across the United States, opening a verité portal into the lives of contemporary Americans”.
Created by Harrison Fishman (The Big Parade), and Robert Redford’s grandson Dylan Redford, who exec produce and direct, the series comes from A24 and Central Pictures, the production company founded by Marty Supreme director Josh Safdie.
Safdie exec produces alongside Eli Bush, Ronnie Bronstein, and JP Lopez Ali for Central Pictures and Jonathan Hausfater and Chris Bowyer for A24.
The show, which doesn’t have a premiere date, is the latest slightly unusual late-night effort for the Warner Bros. Discovery-owned network, which has previously dabbled in shows such as It’s Florida, Man, the Drake-exec produced Chillin Island and Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show.
