Last One Laughing's rich list: Alan Carr climbs the ranks but host Jimmy Carr steals top spot as season two cast's bumper bank balances are revealed

2 weeks ago 6

Last One Laughing returned to screens last month, with 10 famous comedians tasked at keeping a straight face for six hours.

The comedy reality TV show, presented by Jimmy Carr and Roisin Conaty, has been hailed as 'the funniest thing you'll see this year' following the release of series two.

The star-studded cast includes David Mitchell, Diane Morgan, Romesh Ranganathan, Amy Gledhill, Maisie Adam, Mel Giedroyc, Alan, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Sam Campbell, and Bob Mortimer

The premise sees these comics in close quarters while trying to make the others crack up. Once a contestant has laughed twice, they are eliminated from the contest.

On Thursday, David was revealed as the winner of season two after beating Sam in a hilarious finale.

Yet it isn't David who is laughing all the way to the bank, as his fellow comedians have built up a staggering wealth during their time on the comedy circuit.

Let's look at the fortunes of the comedians who took part in this year's series.

Jimmy Carr - £26M

Behind some of the comedian's sharp deadpan humour is a hefty bank balance - including host Jimmy Carr (pictured) who is worth an estimated £26million

Host Jimmy Carr has pulled in a staggering £26million over the years, thanks to his many successful hosting gigs.

Thanks to his successes, accounts filed at Companies House have revealed that his firm, R & I Futures Ltd made £4.8million in the year to September 2024.

Jimmy set up the company two years ago and is earning nearly £100,000 per week.

He recently confirmed the future of Last One Laughing after it was dubbed 'the funniest show ever' by impressed fans.

Last One Laughing has confirmed it will return for a third series - just hours after the newest episodes dropped on Prime Video.

Alan Carr - £20M

Alan Carr has grabbed the top spot when it comes to his finances as the funnyman is said to be worth an estimated £20million

Alan Carr, who was the second comedian to be given a red card on the show after laughing, has grabbed the top spot when it comes to his finances as the funnyman is said to be worth an estimated £20million.

Following his winning stint on The Celebrity Traitors, the comedian has been lined up with a series of shows.

He confirmed this month that he has the rights to the The Barony of Ayton title and is planning on getting his own tartan after purchasing the £3.25million castle.

The barony dates back to 1324 and was available to purchase alongside the estate.

The sprawling estate features a whopping 16 bedrooms, 160 acres of gardens and even its own miniature railway.

Alan revealed that he will be renovating the centuries-old estate into a workable home, with his efforts set to be documented on his new Disney+ series.

The show, which has the working title Castle Man, is set to take on a similar set up to his hit BBC home renovation series with Amanda Holden and is reportedly reportedly being produced by Expectation, the same company responsible for Clarkson's Farm.

Alan is working across all the major channels and can now command multi-million pound deals from all of them.

Bob Mortimer - £10M

After so much success, from Shooting Stars to The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer, an estimate of his fortune over his 30-year career would be £10million

Bob, 66, took home the crown in the debut series last year when he finally cracked co-star Richard Ayoade with a series of one-liners from his joke book.

Returning for a second series, the reigning champ wanted to tackle a brand new line-up of comedians.

He forged a successful TV career with Vic Reeves and is now best known for the fishing series Gone Fishing with The Fast Show's Paul Whitehouse.

Keeping his earnings close to his chest, the only active firm is his production firm Owl Power Ltd - which he co-owns with Fast Show's Paul - and has £436,190 equity.

After so much success, from Shooting Stars to The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer, an estimate of his fortune over his 30-year career would be £10million.

Mel Giedroyc - £4M

Having been in the industry for over 30 years, Mel Giedroyc has built a successful career and a hefty pay package

Having been in the industry for over 30 years, Mel Giedroyc, 57, has built a successful career and a hefty pay package.

Best know for being part of the comedy duo Mel and Sue with Sue Perkins, the pair hosted the Great British Bake Off as well as their very own chat show.

Prior to her hilarious stint on Last One Laughing, Mel appeared on The Masked Singer as 'teeth'.

She has had two TV firms over the years - Tinsel Mines and Mel Giedroyc Ltd - but both have been dissolved.

After going nearly bankrupt in 2007 when she took on a £500,000 mortgage she could ill-afford after being dropped from a Kingsmill bread advert, now Mel's got much stronger financial stability with an estimated net worth of £4million.

Mel previously opened up on the time she and her husband Ben Morris had to 'panic-sell' their house and move into a 'tiny' flat after almost becoming bankrupt due to their huge mortgage.

The presenter said they were put in a 'tricky' situation when her work dried up and they had taken out a mortgage they couldn't afford.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Mel said: 'We had basically borrowed far too much money to buy a house we couldn't afford – and then we lost it.'

The former Great British Bake Off host said they had taken a 'gamble' on the 'stupid house' after the bank lent them a large amount of money that they didn't have.

Mel admitted that she had a year of 'sleepless nights' when her work dried up and they were in a situation that they 'couldn't afford' due to their sizeable mortgage.

Mel explained: 'I had a horrific feeling for about a year of sleepless nights, thinking, "We're in a situation we can't afford".'

She added: 'We only bought it because the bank lent us a stupid amount of money – we didn't have that money, it didn't exist – and that really got me thinking.'

Mel was quick to add that they were never going to be 'homeless' and were very 'lucky' they managed to sell their house quickly and move into a 'tiny flat'.

She continued: 'I don't want to spin some sob story – we were never going to be homeless. But we had to sell our house very, very quickly and we moved into a tiny flat we rented and put all our stuff in storage.'

But the difficult experience taught Mel who her 'real friends' were, with Mel admitting that one of the people who supported her throughout was her comedy partner Sue.

Mel said: 'You know who the absolute real diamonds are, who don't give a toss about your status or what you've got.'

Romesh Ranganathan - £3M

Romesh Ranganathan, 48, has fast become one of the biggest names on TV - and his bank balance certainly reflects his popularity

Romesh Ranganathan, 48, has fast become one of the biggest names on TV - and his bank balance certainly reflects his popularity.

His main firm Vetty Ltd is now worth a whopping £2,496,777 - while his other firm Ranga Bee has £468,645 in its coffers, meaning Romesh has approximately £3million to his name.

The BBC presenter moved into a £3million new home just five miles from the humble terrace house where he grew up back in 2022.

Despite becoming one of Britain's most sought-after TV stars, the comedian shunned celebrity enclaves and instead chosen to build a six-bedroom property in his home town of Crawley in West Sussex.

It is a far cry from the small house nearby where he grew up with his Sri Lankan parents, Shanthi and Ranga, and his younger brother Dinesh.

A source told The Mail on Sunday: 'Romesh could have moved somewhere flash but he decided to stay in Crawley, where his roots are. It's where his mum and brother are and it's a town he loves.

'He has managed to find a space there to build his dream home, though it is rather bigger than his childhood home in one of the poorer areas of Crawley. It's a lovely story of rags to riches which Romesh has worked very hard for.'

The comedian, who replaced Anne Robinson as the host of The Weakest Link, has previously spoken about his impoverished upbringing, including the challenges faced by his family when their home was repossessed after his accountant father was jailed for two years for fraud.

Recalling how the family spent a period in bed-and-breakfast accommodation as they waited for the council to rehouse them, he said: 'This all happened very, very quickly. It was a struggle.

'My mum found out my dad had been messing around. He fell into financial difficulty so we ended up getting our house taken away.

'We were supposed to go into a council flat, but they didn't have enough so we were in a bed-and-breakfast for a year and a half. And my dad was in prison. It was insane.'

Diane Morgan - £3M

Diane Morgan, 50, is said to be worth around a whopping £3million

Diane Morgan shot to fame playing kooky Kath in Ricky Gervais' After Life, before branching out on her own with the hugely successful - and hilarious - TV series Cunk.

The 50-year-old deserves every penny to come her way, and her firm Witchcraft Industries Ltd has £1,281,622 in reserves plus £1,432,758 'cash in the bank'.

It paid £133k corporation tax last year, suggesting profits of around £532k.

David Mitchell - £2M

Davind Mitchell, 51, is believed to be worth at least £2million thanks to his many successes in TV and theatre

The firm which he shares with Robert Webb called That Mitchell and Webb Company has £294,485 equity.

While his other business GoodImpact Ltd has £895,580 reserves.

The multi-talented 51-year-old has made way more than the £1million-plus that his firms currently reveal.

It's believed he's worth at least double that figure now, more likely £2million.
