Landman aired its seventh episode, and the new installment has some significant narrative developments worth breaking down. The Paramount+ series is Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan's latest show, and it's centered around oil crisis management executive Tommy Norris. Billy Bob Thornton plays the lead in Landman's cast, with his character struggling to maintain a balance between his constantly explosive work life and his challenging family life. In episode 7, problems arise for both of his children.

While episode 6 was primarily plot-focused, episode 7 places its attention more on Landman's characters. Angela realizes she might be passionate about helping the elderly at an old folks home, Ainsley meets a new boy at a party, resulting in some trouble with her parents, and Cooper and Ariana's romantic feelings finally develop into a physical partnership. The episode's final scene sees Rebecca and Nathan return to Ariana's house to discuss her signing the agreement before Cooper enters the room, further complicating things.

Why Rebecca Says She's Been Looking For Cooper

Cooper Was Present When The Explosion Happened

Landman episode 7 ends with a cliffhanger when Rebecca tells Cooper she's been looking for him. Her reasoning likely dates back to episode 1, where he was present during the initial explosion that claimed the lives of three men. She'll probably have questions for him regarding the events leading up to what happened, which could end poorly for Cooper and Tommy's relationship. Rebecca knows that the equipment that killed those men was faulty, which would make Tommy and the company somewhat responsible for their deaths.

EXCLUSIVE: Landman's Ainsley and Ariana stars discuss updates on season 2 and their hopes for the Taylor Sheridan's show's potential future.

Cooper initially grows close with Ariana because he has an intense feeling of guilt about what happened. If he were to learn more about the situation and realize his father was partially to blame for destroying those families, his keen sense of principles might cause problems for Tommy and the company. However, that's all just speculation for now. Rebecca could also want to talk to Cooper about the assault on him, as that also might be a company-related problem worth her time.

Will Ariana Sign The Agreement?

Landman season 1 seems to be building toward future problems for Ariana, Cooper, and Tommy. It seems doubtful, especially after Rebecca resorted to threats related to the other families, that Ariana would be interested in working with them on an agreement. After Rebecca and Cooper meet, Ariana and Cooper could decide that she has more to gain from fighting back against Monty's company. Given the Romeo and Juliet comparison from earlier in the episode, seeing them drag Cooper's family into the madness seems all the more likely.

it seems better for Taylor Sheridan-like drama if she picks a fight, placing Tommy and Cooper on opposite sides.

Ariana probably wouldn't win a trial against an oil company, as Rebecca has already stated how impossible they'd make it for her. However, with Cooper supporting her, it seems possible that they'll end up doing something drastic that could be fatal for them both. If Cooper becomes angry with the company over the faulty equipment, matters will likely get out of hand quickly with him and Tommy. Ariana could be pressured into signing to help the other families, but it seems better for Taylor Sheridan-like drama if she picks a fight, placing Tommy and Cooper on opposite sides.

Who Was Watching Tommy When He Was With Ainsley?

The Cartel Is Keeping Tabs On Tommy's Personal Life

Ainsley ends up at a party with other local high school students in episode 7, where she meets her new potential boyfriend replacement. His name is Ryder, and he's an all-star high school quarterback with college and NFL potential, making him the ideal candidate for Ainsley. They start to get physical in the back of Ryder's truck, and Angela, at home, notices that Ainsley hasn't moved in a while and is beginning to worry about her. Angela sends Tommy to check on their daughter, and he finds Ainsley with Ryder on top of her, provoking a furious response.

Taylor Sheridan made one mistake regarding Kayce and Monica’s love story in Yellowstone, but he can redeem himself with another couple in Landman.

Tommy pulls Ryder off of her and gives him a firm talking to. Notably, the scene ends with a man watching them from the bushes. While it's not exactly clear who this is, it seems to be one of the cartel members. After the scene earlier in the episode where Tommy sends them running, they're likely planning a new way of targeting him, which could be through Ainsley. Landman season 1's final three episodes should see the conflict with the Cartel come to a head, so hopefully, Monty's support arrives sooner rather than later.
