Lady Gaga cancels concert in Montreal just hours before taking the stage due to illness

Lady Gaga announced that she would be canceling her concert in Montreal on Monday evening just three hours before she was set to take the stage.

The Grammy-winning singer, 40, took to her Instagram Story to explain that she is 'unable to perform' as she has been 'fighting a respiratory infection.'

She said that her doctor 'strongly advised' her not to perform as her illness has 'gotten worse.'

She added that she was 'absolutely heartbroken' that she would not be able to take the stage until she recovered and apologized to her fans in her post.

At the time of publication, she did not yet share any information about rescheduling the show nor did she address refunds for concertgoers. 

She is currently amid her Mayhem Ball Tour and was set to play her third show in Montreal after performing there on Thursday and Friday. 

Up next, she is set to perform at two shows in Saint Paul, Minnesota on Thursday and Friday before wrapping up her tour in New York City next Monday.

'Hi everyone. I'm so sorry to share that I'm unable to perform tonight and have to cancel the show,' her post began in her social media statement.

'I've been fighting a respiratory infection for the past few days and doing everything I can to rest and recover, but it's gotten worse.' 

She continued: 'My doctor has strongly advised me not to perform today and to be honest I don't think I could give you the quality of a performance today that you deserve. 

'I know how deeply disappointing this is, and I truly could not feel worse about letting you down,' she wrote. 'I'm so sorry to everyone who made plans to be there and support me. 

'Being in Montreal and performing for you on Thursday and Friday was magical and deeply meaningful.' 

She concluded her post by writing: 'To everyone who was coming tonight, I'm absolutely heartbroken and so sorry.'

The singer, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, kicked off her Mayhem Ball Tour back in July 2025 and will soon be concluding her 86-show tour next week. 

Her tour is in support of her sixth solo studio album titled Mayhem, which was released in March 2025 and earned her a Grammy earlier this year for Best Pop Vocal Album. 

She trekked across the United States before crossing the pond for a European leg of her tour and then traveled to Australia. 

She enjoyed a holiday break before resuming her tour, touring across Asia and starting in Japan at the beginning of the year, and then returned back to North America. 

In between shows, she also made attended the Grammys in February and made a surprise guest appearance during Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime performance. 

She was previously forced to postpone one of her shows in Miami back in September 2025 due to vocal strain. 

She canceled her show just minutes before showtime and said, at the time, that she would be rescheduling the concert 'as quickly as possible.' 

She explained that her voice was 'extremely strained' and could not perform that night for fear of 'long-term or permanent damage to [her] vocal cords.' 

She also shared a statement on social media that time and wrote a lengthy message addressed to her fans.

'Hi everyone, I am really so, so sorry, but I need to postpone tonight's show in Miami,' she wrote. 

'During rehearsal last night and my vocal warmup tonight, my voice was extremely strained and both my doctor and vocal coach have advised me not to go on because of the risk it poses,' she continued.

'I want to be hardcore and just push through this for you, but I don’t want to risk long-term or permanent damage to my vocal cords. There is a significant risk based on all our combined experience with a show like ours, and as you know, I sing live every night.'

She concluded: 'Even though this was a hard and agonizing decision, I would be more afraid of the long-term implications on my voice.'
