Kylian Mbappé has now scored exactly 86 goals in his first two seasons at Real Madrid. That’s the same number Cristiano Ronaldo managed in his first two campaigns at the club.
Mbappé’s 86 goals came across 103 appearances, split into 44 goals in the 2024/25 season and 42 in 2025/26. Ronaldo reached 86 in just 89 matches, scoring 33 in his debut 2009/10 campaign before exploding with 53 the following year.
Ronaldo needed 14 fewer games to hit the same mark. The assists column widens the gap further. Ronaldo contributed 24 assists alongside his 86 goals. Mbappé has managed 12. There’s also the penalty question. A higher proportion of Mbappé’s goals have come from the spot compared to Ronaldo’s early Madrid tally.
Both players also share a La Liga Pichichi award in each of their first two seasons, confirming their status as the division’s most lethal finisher during those stretches.
Ronaldo’s first two seasons at Madrid were, by the club’s absurd standards, a disappointment in the silverware department. It wasn’t until Jose Mourinho arrived for the 2010/11 season and beyond that Ronaldo’s individual brilliance was channeled into a team that could genuinely compete on every front.
Now Mourinho is back. The Portuguese manager has been appointed as Real Madrid’s head coach for the 2026/27 season, meaning Mbappé will enter his critical third year at the club under the same tactician who helped unlock Ronaldo’s full potential.
Ronaldo scored 86 goals in two years and then spent the next seven winning four Champions League titles, two La Liga crowns, and becoming the club’s all-time leading scorer with 451 goals.
