Kristen Stewart recalls 'embarrassing' Twilight movie shoots with Robert Pattinson: 'I was such a pretentious little loser'

Kristen Stewart recalled taking on a leading role in the Twilight franchise and admitted that she had been 'a pretentious little loser' at the time. 

The 36-year-old actress, who recently opened up about her 'cool' wife Dylan Meyer, discussed the movies which had also starred Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner on Thursday's episode of the In Your Dreams podcast. 

Stewart had played Bella Swan across the span of five Twilight films that raked in around $3.3 billion in the global box office. 

When it came to the franchise, she told host Owen Thiele that it had been 'tight' but also 'weird.' 

'The first one, we were talking about this earlier because someone else asked about it, but I was such a pretentious little loser trying to make it like the very best,' Stewart expressed. 

'It was so, so serious,' the star continued before adding that both she and Pattinson 'were like, "Yeah, this is like f***ing [everything]. Let's try and elevate this s***."

'And it's like, "Just be exactly what age you are and say the words."' 

Stewart added on the podcast episode that both she and the cast 'were all kind of teenage about it. 

'It was always like, "Oh my god, embarrassing. I just want it to be f***ing real and it's impossible. Everyone's like making it f***ing impossible for it to be like f***ing real.' 

Over a decade after the last film hit theaters, she holds a different perspective. 

'Then you look at it and you're like, "It was f***ing real," and kind of campy and sick,' the actress said.

'Anything like too much is so perfect for that period of time where you're not going to do subtle stuff when you're like a teenager dying. You know what I mean?' 

During the conversation, the actress further expressed that she does not get 'annoyed' when it came to talking about Twilight. 

'It's really funny because it was like we did five of those movies, and it took five years, and then we've never stopped talking about it.' 

Stewart added, 'And during the time in which they were coming out, we were really always being asked to kind of look at it from the outside, which was not possible to do yet.

'You know what I mean? Like, "So, what do you think about this?" You're like, "I'm just making the movies and everyone's like tripping. I don't know.' 

The star was also questioned if she would ever return to the Twilight franchise.

'I would do it again,' Stewart revealed, before adding, 'Yeah, I love it.'  

Daily Mail has reached out to reps for Stewart for comment, but has yet to hear back.  

The first Twilight movie, which had been directed by Catherine Hardwicke, was released in November 2008 and raked in $412 million in the box office on a budget of $37 million. 

Through 2012, four more installments in the franchise hit theaters and became a phenomenon across the globe. 

Earlier this year in January, Stewart also expressed her interest in directing a Twilight reboot if the opportunity arose. 

'I would love - look. I love what Catherine [Hardwicke] did, I love what Chris [Weitz] did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies,' she told Entertainment Tonight. 

'They were so themselves and weird and kind of like, squirrelly, and just so present in that time when they didn’t really know what they were yet, like before they blew up.'

The star continued, 'Imagine if we had like, a huge budget and a bunch of love and support,' before admitting that she would 'love to readapt.'

Stewart further expressed, 'Yeah, sure, I'll do the remake. I'm doing it! I'm committed!'

Pattinson, who played Edward Cullen in the movies, also recently revealed whether he would step into the world of Twilight again. 

During Vanity Fair's lie detector segment last year in November, Jennifer Lawrence asked, 'If they were gonna direct a new Twilight, would you do it?'

The Odyssey actor replied, 'Oh yeah, for sure.' 

He jokingly added, 'It'd be great. I like taking jobs of younger actors… I wanna play 17 again.' 

Stewart is no stranger to directing and has stepped behind the camera on short films such as Come Swim and Crickets. 

The star also directed the feature film titled The Chronology Of Water (2025).   

Stewart's most recent project is the stoner comedy The Wrong Girls which she has taken a leading role in. 

The movie, which was written and directed by Stewart's wife Dylan Meyer, released on August 14. 

The cast additionally includes Alia Shawkat, LaKeith Stanfield, Tony Hale, Zack Fox, Geena Davis, Kate McKinnon and Kumail Nanjiani.
