Dumped KIIS FM star Jason 'Jase' Hawkins says he won't listen to the Kyle and Jackie O Show, after losing his radio slow to the pair.

Jason and his co-star Lauren Phillips were blindsided when their Melbourne  breakfast show was axed last year to make way for Kyle Sandilands and Jackie 'O' Henderson's big expansion into the city from Sydney.

Amid the competition, the Jase and Lauren Show, which now airs on rival network Nova FM, has been crowned Melbourne's most listened to breakfast program.

While the pair have had the ultimate revenge by topping the Melbourne radio ratings, but Jason has no time for his rivals - because their show isn't kid friendly.

'I was in the car the other day, it was the weekend and their best (Kyle & Jackie O's) of was on and I just turned it off straight away' he tells the Herald Sun.

'I had kids in the car on the way to sport and in the first 20 seconds it was stuff I did not want my kids to hear, so whether I wanted to listen to them or not, I couldn't.'

Jason went on to explain he was 'very emotional' when the ratings came through, marking the ultimate revenge for him and Lauren against the radio titans.

'I think for a long time I always felt we weren't really taken serious in this market because we are not big flashy TV celebrity names or former footballers or big high profile celebrities' he said.

'I just always felt like we were seen as small fish in a big pond and people did not really look at us as serious contenders, so it finally felt like we were justified to be here.'

Jason earlier revealed the toll the process took on him and Lauren.

'I was a mess the end of last year. You guys know what this industry is like,' Jase told The Project.

'To get a team where you get along so well and you're so proud of the product you are putting out, it is so rare in this industry. So, for me I was gutted. I felt like, we're just getting started.'

Lauren chimed in: 'I think we thought the fairytale for us was getting a second chance and going to Nova.

'Today is like a little cherry on top. We were pretty graceful in defeat. We accepted the fact we'd been replaced by what we were told was a much better product than us. Being told you're not good enough puts fire in your belly,' she continued.

'Today's been a nice day for us to get to number one. To celebrate with the team.'

When asked about their rivals Kyle and Jackie 'O', the pair were humble and graceful.

'We've always just run our own race. Everyone is talking about this Melbourne radio war. We a have done our own thing,' Jase said.

The comedic chat show has taken home the coveted number one spot in the newly-released 5th radio ratings survey results for 2024 from GFK.

Jase and Lauren's popular program gained 0.3 points and rose to 9.9 per cent in audience share, giving it a clear lead over rivals The Kyle and Jackie O Show.

Kyle and Jackie O trailed significantly at a 6.1 per cent share, after its premiere in Melbourne on April 29, and was the city's fifth most listened to breakfast show.

However, Melbourne newcomers Kyle and Jackie O still marked a slight rise in the city's ratings, from 5.9 to 6.1 per cent.

Kyle and Jackie O took their breakfast radio show to Melbourne in April in a huge multimillion-dollar expansion deal, which triggered the axing of Jase and Lauren's KIIS FM breakfast show.

At the time, an unapologetic Kyle said he felt indifferent to his competitors being sacked as it ultimately came down to who was attracting the most listeners.

'No, I don't care. That's why we went for Melbourne, we were like, "We've given this Jase and Lauren on KIIS FM a good run, it can't get over fourth in the radio ratings, so we'll take it"',' he told news.com.au.

Despite being beaten in the Melbourne ratings, The Kyle and Jackie O Show once again helped KIIS FM claim the top spot as the city's most listened to radio station.

The popular breakfast show attracted a weekly cumulative audience of 750,000 listeners across Sydney - up by over 50,000 people from the prior survey.
