“And for us it’s fun to hang out with each other and just see other people that we love,” she added. “You know, other friends who have done work that we want to celebrate and be proud of.”

So, it’s no surprise that they were cheering on as Cynthia Erivo and Michael B. Jordan took home their respective categories.

The couple—who have welcomed kids Isabelle, 11, and Caleb, 9, since tying the knot in 2013—have been notoriously private about their family life. And while they’ve settled into their choice, it wasn’t always so easy to execute.

“It was very hard at the beginning,” Kerry told InStyle in an interview published in September. “I’d look at a picture of my kid and send it to my mother: ‘This picture has to be in the world, but I don’t want to post it!’ When [my kids] started going to school and I knew I couldn’t protect them every moment of the day, it was scary.”

“Our kids get to be who they are,” Kerry—who is also stepmom to Nnamdi’s teenage daughter from a previous relationship—added, “not who the world has decided they are.”

While the Little Fires Everywhere star has purposefully kept her kids out of the spotlight, she admitted that the same desire for privacy has trickled into the couple’s love life, as well.

“We live our lives and we are in the public eye, but we are still fairly private,” she said. “Almost two years ago, we were at a couture show in Italy, and the house crew took a picture of us. I said to him, ‘This picture is so beautiful. I want to post this picture.’ And he was like, “Really?’”

She added, "We had been married 10 years and never posted a picture of ourselves together. We are both the kind of actors who are often trying to tell as much truth as possible behind the mask of the character. I feel like we are more protective of our real truth. That’s not for public consumption.”
