Keri Russell cuts an effortlessly chic figure in a plunging black dress as she joins co-star Rufus Sewell for the season two premiere of The Diplomat in New York

Keri Russell looked sensational as she joined her co-star Rufus Sewell for the season two premiere of The Diplomat in New York on Monday night.

The California-born star, 48, wowed in a plunging black dress as she showcased her incredible figure.

Her stylish ensemble boasted a collar, flared long sleeves, and a gathered waistline that cinched her in at the hips.

Keri added inches to her frame with a pair of black court heels and accessorised with silver jewellery. 

Meanwhile, Rufus, 57, looked handsome in a grey velvet suit, which he teamed with a navy blue button-up shirt.

The pair appeared in high spirits as they posed for snaps on the red carpet before entering the star-studded event. 

Starring Keri as US Ambassador Kate Wyler, The Diplomat follows Kate Wyler as she tries to an international crisis and navigate her turbulent marriage.

The synopsis for season two reads: 'A deadly explosion in the heart of London shatters US Ambassador Kate Wyler’s world (Keri Russell).

'Struggling to rebuild the lives that broke and the team that split apart, Kate’s worst fears unfold: The attack that brought her to the UK didn’t come from a rival nation, it came from inside the British government.

'As Kate chases the truth, her only real ally is her almost-ex-husband Hal Wyler (Rufus), very much alive, and very much involved.

'She faces a fraught marriage, a complex dynamic with British Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison (David Gyasi), and a threatening visit from Vice President Grace Penn (Allison Janney).'

Earlier this month, Netflix fans were overjoyed when the streamer announced the beloved drama had been renewed for a third season.

The series, which has scored a whopping 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, has proved popular with fans and has already been recommissioned ahead of its second season premiere on October 31.

Netflix confirmed: 'Production is currently underway, and will take place in London and New York City.

'The series is created by Debora Cahn, who returns to Season 3 as executive producer alongside Janice Wiliams, Keri Russell, and Alex Graves.

Additional Season 3 details and additional information will be shared at a later time.'

The Diplomat premiered on the streaming platform last Spring and sees Kate, who has just been named the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom.

The new position came at as a surprise, as the character was supposed to be heading to Afghanistan.

The career diplomat, who is married to another well-known diplomat named Hal (Sewell) will now have to forge international alliances and stop war from breaking out all over the globe. 

It all unfolds as she copes with her crumbling marriage.

Keri is also a producer on the series, a first for her illustrious career.

She played Felicity Porter, a teenager who decides to enroll at the University of New York to pursue her high school crush, on the show Felicity from 1998-2002.

The show earned countless fans, and earned her a Golden Globe in 1999.
