Keira Knightley Sets Next Movie With Star-Studded Cast After Hit Netflix Thriller

Keira Knightley sets an intriguing new movie following her major success as a rising Netflix star in recent years.

According to Variety, Knightley will star in The Worst, a British dark comedy described as a "wickedly entertaining class satire" and the feature directorial debut of Simon Woods. Along with Knightley, it was announced that Alicia Vikander, Jamie Dornan, and Erin Kellyman are joining the cast of this new project. Protagonist Pictures and Logical Pictures International are set to launch worldwide sales at the European Film Market in Berlin.

The Worst follows socialite couple Emily and Max (Vikander and an unconfirmed actor), who invite their wealthy friends — including diversity consultant Holly (Knightley) and talent agent Danny (Dornan) — to a gathering at their French château. There, dark secrets come to light, and a waitress, Niamh (Kellyman), is caught up in the chaos that ensues.

Woods has previously made his mark as an actor and a playwright, known for the National Theatre's Hansard and Such a Lovely Day. He is the writer and director of The Worst, saying he wants people "to be drawn in by these vivid, over-the-top comic characters, their messy, uncomfortable relationships, and the squirm of it all.[...] bringing them right up to the line of almost agreeing with them, and in doing so hold a satirical mirror up to the moment we're living in."

Knightley got her start with Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace and Bend It Like Beckham before breaking onto the international scene in 2003 with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. She went on to be nominated for two Oscars for 2005's Pride & Prejudice and 2014's The Imitation Game. But more recently, Knightley has become known as the lead of Netflix's hit thriller series Black Doves.

Knightley is set to return in Black Doves season 2, in the meantime, also starring in Netflix's book-to-movie thriller adaptation The Woman in Cabin 10 — which was critically panned but nonetheless a streaming hit.
