Good Fortune, starring Keanu Reeves, Seth Rogen, and Aziz Ansari is about to make its streaming debut.
Reviews for Good Fortune were mostly positive, but the comedy-drama brought in modest box office numbers following its U.S. theatrical release on October 17. With a reported budget of $30 million, the opening weekend numbers were about $16.6 million domestically, and it ultimately grossed roughly $26 million worldwide.
Now, Good Fortune is coming to Starz on February 14. The physical and digital release dates were less than three weeks (November 7) after the movie's theatrical premiere. This highlights how quickly mid-budget comedies can pivot to premium streaming options. Rather than relying solely on box office revenue, this weekend's release on Starz can help propel the film to build a wider audience after its short theatrical run. Ansari wrote the film and makes his directorial debut, and according to Ansari, Rogen read the script and agreed to work on the film in under two hours. The movie follows Gabriel, an angel played by Keanu Reeves, who interjects in the lives of one struggling minimum-wage worker (Arj, played by Ansari) and a wealthy venture capitalist (Jeff, played by Rogen).
This film blends a supernatural, fantastical premise with workplace and class-based humor, with Gabriel's idea to attempt to show Arj that wealth won't fix his problems. He magically swaps Arj's life with Jeff's, forcing each other to live in their new circumstances. Other stars in the cast include Keke Palmer as Elena, a hardware store worker and Arj's crush trying to unionize, and Sandra Oh as Martha, another angel and Gabriel's supervisor.
Ansari previously created and starred in the Netflix series, Master of None, and is primarily known for stand-up comedy and comedic television work. Good Fortune also offers an unusual role for Keanu Reeves, who is largely known for action franchises such as John Wick and The Matrix.
Good Fortune will be available to stream for STARZ subscribers beginning this weekend on February 14.
