Jenny McCarthy claimed that Katie Holmes had 'looked like a deer in headlights' during her previous marriage to Tom Cruise.

The 53-year-old actress opened up about the topic during Thursday's episode of her eponymous podcast while joined by guest Ann Gallard Hill, who had left the Church of Scientology in 2007.

McCarthy recalled having a friendship with Holmes and Cruise while dating ex Jim Carrey, and the former couple had notably been guests at their 2006 wedding held in Italy.

Holmes, who welcomed daughter Suri with the actor earlier that same year, had joined Scientology upon marrying the Oscar-nominated actor. But after their divorce in 2012, she left the organization.

McCarthy claimed that she had noticed a 'shift' in Holmes following her nuptials.

'At that time, she looked like a deer in headlights. This was well into the marriage,' she alleged on the episode. 'During the wedding part, she still seemed like Katie, but into the marriage it seemed there was a shift in her.'

At the 2006 wedding, McCarthy claimed that Holmes and Cruise's world had been 'polar opposite.'

During the reception, the model remembered being surrounded by other A-list stars such as Jennifer Lopez and Will Smith.

Holmes' maid of honor had stood up in front of the guests to give an 'adorable' speech about going to high school together and partying, McCarthy said.

The Top Gun actor had Scientology leader David Miscavige be his best man, who then also offered a speech which had been vastly different in tone.

'It was 30 minutes long, about how Tom and Katie are now going to be the most important couple in the world,' McCarthy said, adding that it had left her 'shocked.'

'I was looking around at everyone's faces and I could just see all of Katie's family going, "What? What?" Even Katie, I was watching Katie's face, just like trying to smile her way through it.'

One day earlier at the rehearsal dinner, McCarthy claimed to have experienced an uncomfortable moment when she tried to hold Holmes and Cruise's daughter Suri.

She recalled a nanny bringing a baby Suri to Holmes at one point and explained, 'I went over and I said, "Can I hold the baby?"'

McCarthy claimed that the room morphed into silence.

'It looked like Rosemary's Baby. I got the Scientology stare,' the actress further alleged.

It wasn't until McCarthy returned Suri to Holmes that 'everyone went back to their conversations.'

'I just thought to myself, "Okay, I am in the belly of the beast right now,"' the star said, before adding that she had 'never been so scared in my life.'

McCarthy also revealed on the latest podcast episode that there had been attempts to recruit both her and Carrey into Scientology.

She noted that Cruise was a 'very nice human being' from the times she had met the actor, but claimed he seemed 'programmed.'

Daily Mail has reached out to reps of Holmes and Cruise for comment, but has yet to hear back.

Back in 2006, Holmes and Cruise had married in a Scientologist ceremony in Bracciano, Italy.

When the former couple divorced in 2012 following six years of marriage, the actress removed both herself and her daughter from the controversial religion.

Back in 2016, the Daily Mail revealed that Holmes had feared she would lose Suri to Scientology.

The final straw to end her marriage to Cruise reportedly occurred when members of the Church of Scientology had moved into the former couple's home.

Ron Miscavige, the father of Scientology leader David and who also left the religion, previously told the Daily Mail that there is a 'toxic' policy of 'disconnection' within the organization.

He said that members of the church moving in with her and Cruise 'didn't sit so well with Katie.'

'And it hurt the marriage. She and Tom had big differences about the way life should be lived,' he added.

Holmes has most recently been romantically linked to New York-based artist Jason Bard Yarmosky.

Cruise was briefly linked to actress Ana de Armas, but in October of last year, it was revealed that the pair had called it quits after reportedly dating for nine months.
