EXCLUSIVE: Justin Long (Barbarian) and Michael McKean (Better Call Saul) have closed deals to join In Memoriam, the forthcoming Marc Maron comedy from Thelma producer Invention Studios.
Roles for the pair are under wraps. As previously announced, pic’s cast also includes Talia Ryder, Lily Gladstone, Sharon Stone, and Judy Greer.
Written and directed by Emmy winner Rob Burnett (The Fundamentals of Caring), In Memoriam follows a veteran Hollywood actor (Maron) who, after receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis, becomes obsessed with securing a spot in the Academy Awards’ “In Memoriam” montage. This leads to a heartfelt exploration of ego, humility, and legacy.
Invention Studios’ Nicholas Weinstock and Divya D’Souza will produce alongside Maron, as well as Burnett and David Martin from Avalon. Production commenced in Los Angeles earlier this month.
Recently, Long has appeared in Kevin Smith’s teen comedy The 4:30 Movie and 20th Century Studios’ hit horror film Barbarian, along with titles like Clerks III and Disney+/Hulu’s Goosebumps. Up next, he’ll be seen starring in Clark Duke’s comedic thriller Stranglehold and indie horror pic Night Patrol.
Known for his Emmy-nominated role in AMC’s Better Call Saul, along with his work in films like This Is Spinal Tap, McKean’s recent credits include Emmy winner Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, along with series Dead Ringers and The Diplomat. Coming up for him is a role in Spinal Tap II.
Both Long and McKean are repped by Independent Artist Group. Long is also repped by Yorn, Levine, Barnes; McKean by Harriet Sternberg Management.
