Just Admit It: Farscape's Deadliest Species Make the Peacekeepers Look Totally Pathetic

2 days ago 4

The Farscape franchise managed to introduce antagonists worse than the Peacekeepers. From the very beginning, the Peacekeepers were the recurring villains of the show's universe. Contracted to maintain order by militaristic force, the Peacekeepers were viewed as the worst kind of fascists, and there was nothing worse than a Peacekeeper.

BOOM! Studios' canonical comic book continuation of Farscape introduces adversaries, the Kkore, who are far more unruly than even the Peacekeepers. The Kkore are first featured in the Farscape: Scorpius miniseries by Rockne S. O'Bannon, David Alan Mack, Mike Ruiz, and Gordon Purcell.

The Kkore fleets ready to attack in Farscape #14

The Kkore take center stage as primary antagonists during the "War for the Uncharted Territories" arc, released between Farscape #13 and #24 (the final issue). In understanding the Kkore, fans can finally understand their significance as the Farscape universe's final villains.

The Kkore of the Farscape Universe Overtake the Peacekeepers as the Deadliest Threat

Legendary, Technologically Advanced Creatures of Myth

The Kkore dwarf over Scorpius in Farscape #16

In the Farscape universe, the Kkore is infamous in the universe's folk lore as mythical creatures who periodically make their return every millennium to conquer the Uncharted Territories. For the seventh volume of Farscape comics, it becomes evident that this technologically advanced race of aliens is no myth once they return from Grey Space to plot another attack on the Territories. They return freakishly tall, and, as readers learn in Farscape #21, are a derivative evolution of the Delvian race.

Farscape #22 by Rockne S. O'Bannon, Keith R.A. Decandido, Will Sliney, Zac Atkinson, and Johnny Lowe delves deeper into the origin story of the Kkore.

With their sights set on everyone in the outskirts of the galaxy, the Kkore forces unlikely allies to team up within the Territories, even forcing former Peacekeeper Aeryn Sun to lead the PKs in a united front. Farscape #15 shows that the Kkore are formidable enough to nearly leave our heroes for dead, forcing them to abandon ship. Along the way, the Kkore even devastate Pilot's homeland. It takes Aeryn, John, and the rest of their crew joining forces with every single unit in the Territories to defeat the Kkore for good, showcasing just how powerful the Kkore are.

The Kkore Has a Lasting Impact on the Farscape Universe

Even in Past the Comic's Final Issue

The Kkore contact Scorpius in Farscape #16 (1)

With Farscape's run officially ending with this comic continuation, the Kkore is the franchise's final Big Bad and has an undeniable impact upon arrival. In the final battle, the Kkore's overwhelming force results in the sacrifices of Jothee and Utu-Noranti Pralatong, among other notable character deaths. Even in defeat, the Kkore carry a long-lasting weight that outlives even the longevity of the Farscape franchise, making a strong argument for them being its best villains.

Farscape: Scorpius is available now from BOOM! Studios.
