John Oliver Tells Stephen Colbert About Teary Eyed Kamala Harris Endorsement: ‘I Wasn’t Crying, I’m British, I’m Dead Inside’

John Oliver stopped by “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Monday, with the “Last Week Tonight” host addressing the viral video in which he urged his viewers to vote for Kamala Harris.

Oliver made headlines with his plea to voters, appearing to fight back tears as he told those watching “Look, I love this country. I’m an immigrant. I chose to be here” and that he would be voting for Vice President Harris.

But Oliver told Colbert that he was flabbergasted by how much coverage the clip received. “I wasn’t crying. I’m British. I’m dead inside,” Oliver said.

Oliver later admitted that he “generally” only cries while watching movies on airplanes. The last movie to bring him to tears in the friendly skies? The Will Ferrell-Jon Heder figure skating comedy “Blades of Glory.”

Oliver and Colbert then discussed plans for election day, with Oliver saying he enjoys standing in line to vote the day of rather than voting early or submitting a ballot by mail. Oliver referred to waiting in line and letting others go ahead of him at the polling place as “democracy edging.”

Colbert also asked Oliver about his “feud” with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who has been hitting the campaign trail in support of Donald Trump.

“I think one of the things is he clearly loves comedy,” Oliver said. “So he wants to be funny. And unfortunately, money can’t buy you that. So deep down, he’s never going to be funny and that must be eating him alive, because he’s trying so hard to be funny. Every time he tries, it must make it seem further away from him, that laugh that he’s always chasing but will never catch up with. That is going to be a vacuum of the center of his soul for a long time.”
