Jimmy Fallon visited The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night to bid an early goodbye to his competition, and after showing some old photos of the two together and presenting the out-going CBS host with a going-away gift of a painting (Colbert and his dog riding off on a boat to parts unknown), the Tonight show host and former SNL cast member paid tribute in song.
Specifically, Fallon sang the old Sinatra chestnut “My Way” but with lyrics rewritten for Colbert.
The song began:
“And now, the end is near/
And so you face the final curtain.
But Trump, he made it clear/
he wants you gone, of that we’re certain.”
Colbert departs his self-titled CBS talk show on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
Both men stood atop Colbert’s desk as Fallon concluded his ode with a grace note encouraging Colbert to run for President in 2028.
Check out the video below, and here are the special lyrics:
“And now, the end is near/
And so you face the final curtain.
But Trump, he made it clear/
he wants you gone, of that we’re certain.
“You’ve been a gracious host/
We’ve loved you since the old Report days.
And more, much more than this/
you did it your way.
“CBS, they said you’re through/
and now it’s down to just two Jimmys.
But wait, before you go, can I please have/
one of your Emmys?
“Oh now, what will you do?
Dance with the stars? or move to Norway?
In ’28, you’d have our vote/
you did it your way.”
