Jimmy Barnes has shared a loving tribute to his friend, Angry Anderson, after the legendary Australian rocker died on Monday at age 79.

In a post shared on Instagram, the fellow rock star thanked Angry for taking his musician son, Jackie Barnes, under his wing.

'We lost a good man this week. Angry Anderson sang from his heart with power and conviction,' Jimmy wrote.

'But don't let that tough outside fool you. He was a caring soul who loved his family, cared for his friends and stood up for the downtrodden.

'As a rock 'n' roll singer, he was as good as it gets. He took my son under his wing and they tore it up together.

'Rock in Peace my dear friend.'

'He was as ferocious as they come as a singer but under the surface was one of the kindest, gentlest people I have known. He loved his family, his mates and all the Tatts fans out there.

'Thank you Angry for your friendship and what an honour it has been to walk this earth beside you. Rest in peace mate.'

Jimmy's son, Today Extra host David Campbell, likewise had kind words for Anderson, who performed at his wedding to his wife, Lisa, in 2008.
