EXCLUSIVE: Jewish content streamer ChaiFlicks has struck a deal for a trio of shows from Israel-based distributor Yes Studios.

The package comprises comedy-drama On the Spectrum, The Chef Season 2 and supermarket mockumentary Checkout Season 5.

On the Spectrum is due to launch on the platform in March. The series follows three 20-something roommates who are all on the autism spectrum and share a sheltered apartment as they learn to cope with the world around them.

The ten-episode series, from Dana Idisis and Youval Shafferman, won several awards, including the Series Mania Grand Prix in 2018, the Best International Series Award at the Seoul Drama Awards and three Monte-Carlo Golden Nymphs. Back in 2021, it sold to HBO Max in North America and was remade by Jason Katims in the States for Prime Video under the title As We See It.

The Chef follows the high-pressure environment of a top restaurant kitchen and the ongoing relationship between hedonistic single chef Dori and his employee Nimrod, a family man trying to get by. Erez Kavel and Orit Dabush are the creators on the show, whose nine-part Season 2 launches this month.

Checkout Season 5 has just gone live on ChaiFlicks. The show is set in the fictional supermarket chain Shefa Isaschar and follows the daily interactions between the staff and their customers. Season 5 runs for 20 half-hours. Yaniv Zohar and Nadav Frishman are the producers.

“As the only streaming platform solely focused on sharing Jewish stories from around the world, our partnership with Yes Studios is fundamental to our mission,” said Neil Friedman, co-founder of ChaiFlicks. “Their award-winning, high-quality programming represents true gems – allowing us to deliver the richness of the Jewish experience, straight from Israel to audiences worldwide. These three series strongly resonate with our audience, and we look forward to sharing them with our subscribers.”

Sharon Levi, Managing Director at Yes Studios, called ChaiFlicks “a platform that does so much to promote the very best Israeli content to its growing audience around the world,” adding: “Earlier seasons of The Chef and Checkout have proved extremely popular with ChaiFlicks viewers, so the new seasons will readily meet existing demand.

“We also have every confidence that On the Spectrum, with its endearing characters and unique interpretation of day-to-day life, will quickly prove a massive hit with the streamer’s comedy fans.”

ChaiFlicks already streamers Yes-sold shows Shtisel, Unsilenced, Fire Dance and Just for Today. Today’s deal comes ahead of this month’s London TV Screenings, which has developed over recent years into one of the international TV industry’s leading distribution events.

Fauda seller Yes Studios, which is owned by Yes TV, is screening its scripted slate to buyers on Monday, February 23.

ChaiFlicks, meanwhile, launched in August 2020 in the U.S. and Canada, and has since expanded into the UK, Australia and New Zealand. It offers around 2,500 of programs and films. Last week, it acquired Hapless, a British sitcom about a neurotic journalist.
