Just over a year ago, Jessica Simpson made no secret of her cougar ambitions, cooing on the red carpet: 'I think I'm into younger men at the moment.'
The newly single star, then 45, made the cheeky confession at the All's Fair premiere, her first acting gig in 15 years, nine months after ditching husband of a decade Eric Johnson.
'When you're newly separated... I feel like younger guys kinda like the confidence of an older woman, I'm discovering,' she teased.
Talk about manifesting it, as by April she was cozying up to musician Thomas Eisenhood, 13 years her junior.
The age gap raised eyebrows. So did the timing.
The one-time pop princess had long since slipped off the radar. Her career had stalled. Her marriage had crumbled. And she was facing life as a single mom of three, all while staying sober.
Jessica Simpson is enjoying a renaissance - and her age-gap romance with Thomas Eisenhood has given her a boost, one insider has told the Daily Mail (Jessica Simpson in October 2025)
'They have been dating all year, but have grown even closer this fall as they make holiday plans together,' the insider said of Simpson, 46, and Eisenhood, 33 (above) (Source: Thomas Eisenhood/Facebook)
But Simpson is determined to turn things around, and it seems her new man Eisenhood, 33, is part of the plan.
Now 46, she is in 'a new, sexier phase of her life' and more than happy with the age gap 'because he can keep up with her energy,' an insider told the Daily Mail, adding: 'She is a real powerhouse who never sits still.'
And far from a fleeting fling, the source added: 'They have been dating all year, but this fall have gotten even closer as they are making holiday plans together.'
Sure enough, the lovebirds finally went public in early October, trading flirty glances and snapping selfies at Albuquerque's Balloon Fiesta Park.
But otherwise they've kept things strictly under wraps. There are no loved-up Instagram snaps, although eagle-eyed fans have spotted Simpson liking his posts.
Behind closed doors, though, the Texas-raised beauty is said to be smitten with his Southern charm.
'Tom is a true gentleman from Nashville who really looks out for her,' our insider said.
'It's all 'yes ma'am' and old-school manners as he guides her musically because he is so skilled, he is great with a melody, and she loves that he can add to her musical dreams.'
And he may have arrived at just the right moment, as Simpson tries to rediscover her musical roots.

After all, it has been a long road back.
In her heyday, the Irresistible hitmaker was one of the biggest names in pop, with MTV's Newlyweds turning her into a household name in the early 2000s.
But the music dried up. She hadn't released a single in 17 years, instead quietly swapping the charts for the boardroom with her eponymous fashion empire, which now sells exclusively at Walmart.
Then, last year came the surprise comeback, with her Nashville Canyon EPs, Part 1 and Part 2.
But this time there was no major label behind her. Simpson released the records herself, putting a brave face on it at the MTV VMAs in September 2025: 'It's crazy to be here and to not have a record label and to be here representing myself for myself. It's really empowering.'
She returned to the stage after a 15-year hiatus, kicking off at the Luck Reunion festival in Texas, where she told the crowd: 'I am now a very single lady.'
But the comeback has hardly been stadium-sized. Her 2026 tour was a short summer run of just seven dates, mostly at casinos, from Hard Rock Live in Oklahoma to Yaamava' Resort in California.
Even her return to acting was fleeting. Her All's Fair role amounted to a single guest episode of Ryan Murphy's Hulu legal drama, in which she spent six hours in prosthetics to play a woman left with botched plastic surgery.
'She is completely inspired and I think Tom has something to do with that because he makes her feel sexy and alive,' said the insider (Simpson pictured in July 2026) (Source: Jessica Simpson/Instagram)

Simpson has been candid about her insecurities, too, admitting on stage at Foxwoods casino last December that she never felt 'good enough' as a 2000s pop star.
In June, she opened up on Instagram about what the time away had cost her.
'Over the last 15yrs of not performing, I haven't been able to fully express myself in ways that make the most sense for my life,' she wrote.
She credited her fans for helping her find her feet on stage again, gushing: 'Each and every single one of you that bless my heart by comin' to MY HOME on the stage have become a major part of my journey through the pain and the joy. Thank y'all for making me feel loved and valued.'
And it seems her muse is in the wings.
'Jessica is very motivated by her music these days,' our insider said. 'She is completely inspired and I think Tom has something to do with that because he makes her feel sexy and alive.'
They've even got pet names.
'Jessica and Tom speak the same language because they are both musicians and they both have a sexy, quirky sense of humor,' said the insider. 'He is really good at playing the saxophone and she calls him 'saxy.''
'Jessica's sister Ashlee really likes Tom,' said the insider (pictured together in 2024)
It's no idle boast. Eisenhood played baritone sax for 11 years with New Orleans band Stoop Kids, until they went on indefinite hiatus in 2023.
Since then he has worked behind the scenes as a Nashville sound engineer and tour manager, and he has reportedly been on tour with Simpson on and off this year.
That shared passion is a world away from her marriage.
'Her ex Eric [Johnson] didn't really understand her passion for music, but Tom does,' the insider added.
Indeed, Johnson came from a very different background. The Yale-educated former NFL tight end played for the San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints before he was introduced to Simpson in 2010. He proposed that November, and they married in July 2014.
The couple share three children: Maxwell, 14, Ace, 13, and Birdie, seven.
But in January 2025, Simpson confirmed they had been 'living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,' insisting: 'Our children come first.'
She later hinted at a bombshell discovery, telling fans she'd had to 'ask some very personal questions on the home front' and found 'my world had been turned upside down'.

Nearly two years on, the exes have yet to finalize their divorce, and they've kept things civil for the kids, even reuniting for Ace's sixth-grade graduation in June.
Of course, Simpson is no stranger to a headline-grabbing romance.
She famously wed 98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey in 2002, and their marriage played out on MTV's Newlyweds before they divorced in 2006. She went on to date John Mayer, who notoriously branded her 'sexual napalm,' and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.
And her exes may have reason to sweat.
For Simpson is baring all in a Netflix documentary due next year. The streamer says she has 'invited the cameras back in to tell all' for the first time since Newlyweds.
Insiders have already warned it could be explosive. One told InTouch: 'There's no telling what she's going to say about her breakup with Eric in the documentary. It was very messy.' And as for Lachey: 'Of course Nick is nervous.'
But she's got her own family in her corner, especially when it comes to the new romance.
'Jessica's sister Ashlee really likes Tom, and so does Ashlee's husband Evan [Ross]. They all hang out together and talk music because Ashlee and Evan are also musicians,' said our source.

Through it all, Simpson has held on to her sobriety.
She quit drinking on November 1, 2017, after realizing she had become 'somebody that I was afraid of', later laying bare her struggles in her 2020 memoir, Open Book.
After celebrating eight years sober on Instagram last year with the words 'Today I am clear,' she debuted her sobriety anthem Give It All Away in June, telling fans: 'I'm just a work in progress... and I'm very proud of myself.'
This year, she seemingly kept her nine-year milestone private.
But her renaissance goes beyond her career and her sobriety, and her glow-up is on full display.
Last month, Simpson sizzled in a series of lingerie snaps for her eponymous fashion line, and days later she debuted a dramatic new look, swapping her trademark blonde for chocolate brunette locks.
According to our source, it's all part of 'a major glow-up' fueled by a detox, daily workouts and a strict skincare regime, as she is 'heading toward 50 and wants to stay young looking'.
Best of all, Simpson is finally calling the shots.
'Jessica used to be so controlled in her career, she was told what to do, but now she is in control and she decides what she wants to do,' the insider said.
'She wanted to give up reality TV and acting to go back to her music career, so that is what she did. She is proud of how far she has come.'
And that means a starring role for Eisenhood in her future plans.
'Next year she will be touring more as she loves performing in front of a live audience,' the insider said. 'It thrills her, and she will take Tom with her.'
The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Simpson for comment.
