Jessica Simpson’s Brunette Hair Transformation Is Simply Irresistible
Jessica Simpson is toning down her blonde ambition.
The “Irresistible” singer traded in her signature blonde hair color for a shade of bronde—a light brunette tone infused with golden dark blonde—for the winter season, proving that dark hair truly does thrive in the cooler months.
In her Feb. 9 Instagram Stories, Jessica reposted a photo from her hairstylist Chris Dylan that showed off her new color. In the shot, the 35-year-old strutted down the hallway in a black dress, her bronde hair tossed in a few waves. Chris wasn’t the only person that praised her client’s transformation, as celebrity colorist Rita Hazan also shared a close look at Jessica’s hair that same day.
Posting a close-up photo of her side part, she wrote, “Hazelnut brown is my new favorite shade on Jessica.”
Indeed, Rita has been working with the “Sweetest Sin” star—who shares kids Maxwell, 13, Ace, 12, and Birdie, 6, with estranged husband Eric Johnson—to find her perfect shade of brown since the year started. To start the process, she turned Jessica into a “cashmere bronde” in January, a hue that’s a smidge lighter from her current color.
“We keep going darker and darker and I love it!” the longtime hair colorist wrote on her Instagram photo that month. “Maybe my favorite one yet!”
As for how she settled on that color at the time?
“I didn’t want to go too dark at once, so we gradually increased the hue to ensure that we got the most perfect tone,” Rita told People last December. “This shade is pretty dark for her but maybe we could go a little darker. Her hair color still has to be sexy and soft.”
But most importantly, the stylist wanted the tone to match Jessica’s new era of music. Since The Dukes of Hazzard actor relocated to Nashville from California in late 2023, she’s been embracing the darker riffs of country—especially on her two-part Nashville Canyon EP she released last summer.
And according to Rita, helping Jessica to achieve the perfect brunette could help her complete this new musical direction.
“I think her music is very moody,” the stylist noted. “It’s a full vibe, so the hair has to match: very deep and multi layered and dimensional with the color.”
In fact, Jessica admitted she’s eager for fans to see her sonic evolution, especially since she took a decade-long hiatus from music.
“I want everyone to have grace for themselves, but I’m very good at convincing myself that my purpose is bigger than the moment,” she said during her Dec. 7 show in Connecticut. “It felt like over the last 15 years of not singing, I’d left these breadcrumbs to walk myself back to the throne where I belong. It’s my chair, my crown, and I reclaimed that.”
