"Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage," Jessica told People in a Jan. 13 statement. "Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family."
But while the former couple, who share daughter Maxwell, 12, son Ace, 11, and daughter Birdie, 5, are going their separate ways, throughout their almost 15 years together, the pair shared a number of beautiful moments together as a family.
Take, for instance, Maxwell’s birthday in May 2023. Alongside a photo of the family smiling—save for Birdie, who was crying as she held aloft a piece of cake—Jessica quipped, “Can’t win them all.”
But there were still, in fact, many wins. As Jessica wrote in 2021 to commemorate 11 years with Eric, “11 hearts filled in every passing year with unconditional, passionate, inspired, fascinating, supportive, beautiful, tempting, ravishing, exquisite, sublime, marvelous, honest, happy, adored, ideal, incomparable, powerful, mesmERIC, LOVE.”

She continued, of the life they’ve built together, “Time goes by, the perfect children you gave me are growing older, but with you and I time does not exist for it only allows space to broaden...expanding beyond horizons just to love and be loved.”
"Eric turned 44 on Sept 15 and his family gave him all the love cells we have to celebrate his life," the 43-year-old wrote alongside her Sept. 19 post, which featured a picture with their three children. "My heart is so taken with this Man, I could hardly call it my own….We love youuuu."
And while Eric “ain’t an Instagram guy,” as Jessica noted in her birthday post for him, the former NFL player often featured on the “Irresistible” singer’s social media—until he didn’t.
Leading up to the news of their split, Eric hadn’t appeared on Jessica’s feed since April, when she chronicled the family’s spring break and shared a belated Easter photo dump.
It was an absence made all the more notable by Jessica’s other social activity, which had fans wondering whether the pair had gone their separate ways long before the news of their split.

In addition to chronicling weekends dedicated to “self-love,” Jessica shared a number of photos without her wedding ring, and, most recently, shared a cryptic note on love while preparing for the release of new music.
“Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic,” she captioned a Nov. 11 post. “This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve.”
A bittersweet end for a couple who seemed to take each other’s breath away.
