Jesinta Franklin has revealed how she and husband Lance 'Buddy' Franklin chose their newborn son's unique name.

The model, 34, and her AFL star husband, 39, welcomed baby number three, Bam, into the world in December, with Jesinta publicly announcing the name in March.

Speaking to the Herald Sun, Jesinta revealed the name was chosen while Buddy was watching an NBA game.

She said that Buddy was quite taken with the moniker of Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo.

'Bud had been watching the basketball once when I was pregnant and one of the US basketball players' name is Bam and Bud was like, "That is the coolest name, if we have another boy I’d love to call him Bam",' she said.

She added that the name was also a subtle nod to the iconic Flintstones character, Bamm Bamm  – the son of Barney and Betty Rubble.

'So, it kind of just stuck,' she said.

'We wanted something unique and different and we’d call him Bam Bam at home, like the Flintstones character, and it really suited him.'

However, Jesinta added that it wasn't too long before she encountered another bub with the same name.

'The funny thing is we took the kids to a surf school in Yallingup and they had a Rocky and a Bam there – we never thought we’d meet another Bam. So, it was nothing too deep and meaningful,' she said.

Jesinta took to Instagram in March to reveal the name.

She posted a photo of her tenderly cradling her bub as they relaxed at home.

'Me and my little sidekick, Bam. He's been on every Zoom, attended every meeting, every photo shoot and now, every podcast I've done since he was born,' Jesinta wrote in the caption.

'It can be tricky finding the balance between it all, but this guy has made it so easy for us. He doesn't leave our side... just rolls with the chaos that is our life!'

Many of Jesinta's celebrity friends took to the comment section to gush over the sweet name and photo.

'Hi Bam's mum,' wrote Celeste Barber.

'Angel,' added Aussie model Rachael Finch.

Buddy and Jesinta welcomed their third child on the Gold Coast in December.

Jesinta confirmed the exciting news on social media by sharing a precious gallery of photos.

One adorable black-and-white picture captured the couple happily posing in a mirror selfie as Buddy, 39, tenderly cradled their newborn in his arms.

Another photo showed the infant resting peacefully with Jesinta, who lovingly held  her baby.

The glamorous model captioned the gallery with some exciting words: 'My heart feels like it could burst.

She also recently opened up about the downside of pregnancy as she prepared to welcome baby number three.

Speaking to 7News in October, she admitted that her pregnancy had not always been plain sailing.

'I spent about 10 weeks on the couch and that was pretty hard,' Jesinta said.

Jesinta added that she was 'grateful' to have made it through what had been a difficult first trimester.

'I am so grateful and thankful, but it's nice to have come out on the other side,' she said.
