Jennifer Love Hewitt is doing her part for the city she loves amid the devastating LA fires

The Ghost star, 45, made an appearance on Miami's Y 100.7 with Elvis Duran on Tuesday and talked about evacuating the Pacific Palisades with her family.

She also talked about the merch she's made and how 100% of the proceeds are going to the nonprofit organization Baby2Baby to aid children affected by the devastating fires.

'When I'm hurting I try to figure out how to turn that into something active, because it just doesn't serve us to sit in all of that heaviness,' she said.

The I Know What You Did Last Summer star was up in the middle of the night while the fires raged, watching the news and wondering how she could help.

'I just love Los Angeles so much I just wanted to do something to help,' she said, adding that a lightbulb went off in her head.

'Instead of Los Angeles, Love Angeles, my middle name and also what I want to give out to the city.'

She called a contact at BFF and Babes who also loved the idea and two hours later they had a working concept ready to go.

As of this writing, Jennifer has sold more than $35K in Love Angeles merchandise and she wants to keep it going.

The radio host asked her how she's doing and Jennifer answered candidly and honestly.

'You know it changes every couple of minutes. I have to try to be OK as much as possible because my kids are watching. I'm trying to still be silly and present and on the flip side i'm heartbroken and panicked,' she admitted.

She added:  Watching it feels unbelievable. It feels like it's been six months and it's only been a few days.'

Jennifer assured Duran that she and her family are 'as safe as we can be' but they 'really miss our little community.'

She went on to say she's been checking in with friends and they've been checking in with her and one thing she noticed is that they are all having wildly different experiences.

The 9-1-1 actress said she told her kids to remember, 'Always check on your friends always see how they are doing, not just in extreme circumstances, be good hearted and be there for people all of the time, not just in hard times.'

Of her experience evacuating her Pacific Palisades neighborhood, she said:  'The second we were told to get out we got out we got out. You can't so anything about the fire part of it you have to leave room for first responders to do what they can do to save what they can.

'We got out very quickly. We wasted no time. I'm glad that we did. Traffic was crazy. it took two hours to go two blocks and that was 20 minutes after they asked people to leave,' she explained.

As the winds kicked back up in L.A. this week, Jennifer said she felt 'palpable anxiety.'

'None of us slept last night,' she said, explaining she was talking to several friends. 'We are all just watching the news and wondering what's next, where's it's going to go,' she said.

'The embers are just sitting there so if the wind gusts go too crazy, do those embers come up and light again, she added.

The hosts asked Jennifer what people in L.A. are seeing that national audiences are not.

'How many different sides to the story there are, you're seeing the images and drone shots of everything burnt down and the bravery of the first responders,' she said.

Whereas nationally the news is showing the political side of the story, what the city did and did not do, Angelenos are seeing more personal stories.

She gushed about the tireless work and the bravery of the firefighters and the spirit of community in Los Angeles.

'These fire fighters have not stopped trying to save people's homes and memories and experiences.'

'It is a city of people who are supporting each other and care about each other and are looking out for each other.

'Theres a beautiful spirit, it's very moving, she said as she broke down in tears.

'There's a really beautiful part of what's happening here that they don't get to tell in quick clips of the news that's really inspiring.'

In closing Jennifer added,  'I hope we make it through these next few days of crazy winds without any more big news, honestly.'
