Jennifer Lawrence has admitted to these plastic surgery procedures. But it's what she won't say about her changing face that really gives the game away: CAROLINE BULLOCK

Is it JLaw or JLo gracing the cover of The Cut's latest edition?

The headline says Jennifer Lawrence but it's hard to tell; her quirks seemingly erased, less chub and more chiselled, a blanker looking beauty with a wider stare.

It's quite an eye-opening transformation.

On candid form while plugging her new haircare brand, Mes, the actress has blabbed about having a boob job, her use of Botox and plans for a future facelift. Predictably, all is framed around the $220 million A-lister's faux modest pretensions.

'Everything bounced back, pretty much, after the first one,' the 36-year-old mother of two explains. 'Second one, nothing bounced back.'

'I want to be a sexy mom,' she added. 'At drop-off, I want to look like a woman that has her s*** together even when I've just woken up and don't have my s*** together.'

Yes, apparently, it's as much about looking perky for a playdate as, say, for her nude turn in her new Martin Scorsese film, What Happens at Night. Or to look hot in Katniss's skims-style catsuit for the latest Hunger Games installment, Sunrise on the Reaping out next month.

Though, she appears to grudgingly admit that's part of it, too.

'Maybe I wouldn't be hustling to the appointment in the same way,' she said about undergoing a breast lift procedure. 'But I think yes.'

The charitable may say it's a rare burst of Tinseltown transparency; the cynic in me suspects something else.

You see speculation is at fever pitch over just what Jen may have done. Forums are flooded with suggestions she may have tampered with her distinctive hooded eyes while others are troubled by her skewed bottom lip that you can't unsee on the cover.

Reading the room, surely, it's more a case that Lawrence can't not address the issue of cosmetic work in some capacity, perhaps hoping a little candor will deflect from other areas of scrutiny.

Sadly, for her it won't work, as she peddles her usual free-spirited persona with an ever more seemingly generic Hollywood identikit face. Remember this is an actress who is supposed to revel in going against the grain embracing a certain goofball originality.

Whether it was taking a tumble – twice –  at award shows or fangirling over Jack Nicholson at the 2013 Oscars, her antics once seemed an endearing antidote to some of her too cool for school contemporaries.

There was a synergy between her carefree charisma and her fresh-faced, distinctive looks that drew comparisons with a young Ellen Barkin and suggested she was comfortable in her own skin.

But the self-deprecating histrionics and gurning photobombs began to grate and now the admission that she wants to conform to Hollywood's most tedious beauty rule feels like such a sell-out.

I'm talking about the instinct to airbrush into oblivion any quirk or distinctive trait. The lifted brow, plumped cheeks and tapered jaw more suited to an influencer vlog than the big screen.

Why is it today's red carpet looks more like an attack of the clones with the usual suspects touting an ever more standardized facial formula. Yes, they're undoubtedly flawless but surely more forgettable as a result.

Iconic eyes that once smouldered and twinkled are 'refreshed' but end up looking sad and frozen. Delicate profiles are hardened with snatched jaws, all expression ironed out as if each face has its own built-in filter.

Once in a while someone reminds us that so-called 'flaws' are often no such thing anyway.

Take Jennifer Grey's unnecessary nose job. Two rhinoplasty surgeries to 'fine-tune' her visage left her unrecognizable and kept her in the corner ever since.

The Hollywood that used to define beauty standards with golden age icons such as Lauren Bacall leaning into a crooked smile and heavy eyelids is sadly long gone.

A bit like the old JLaw. Though, the girl herself still believes she's keeping it real, spinning more 'relatable' anecdotes in her interview with The Cut.

Juggling life as beauty brand mogul with impending motherhood, she recalls bouncing on a yoga ball while nine months pregnant during a business meeting on Zoom and forgetting she only had a bra on.

'I just turned my camera off and said, "I'm so sorry. I realized that I'm not wearing a shirt,"' she recalls. 'And then everybody pretended like they hadn't noticed.'

Shame the same can't be said about her.
