Jenna Ortega was back on the red carpet on Saturday for the Rome Film Festival premiere of her new movie Klara And The Sun.

The Wednesday star, 24, wowed in a plunging nude dress as she posed with the film's director Taika Waititi at the Auditorium Parco Della Musica.

The movie, based on Kazuo Ishiguro's book, sees Jenna play the titular character, a robot girl designed to prevent loneliness.

While posing in the store's window, Klara catches the eye of Josie (Mia Tharia), who persuades her mother Chrissie (Amy Adams) to buy her as a companion.

Klara befriends the teen in an alternative future where technological advances in genetic engineering have divided humans into strict, isolated classes. Steve Buscemi and Natasha Lyonne also star in the movie.

The movie premiered Thursday at the BFI London Film Festival and has racked up a stream of lacklustre reviews in the days since.

It currently holds a 20% 'rotten' critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer based on 10 reviews.

The Telegraph, The Times and the Guardian have all given the film one star reviews.

The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw called Waititi's adaptation 'a sentimental and laborious mess,' adding that the filmmaker 'turns Kazuo Ishiguro's AI fable into a twee, tiresome tale of love and grief.'

Variety's Guy Lodge agrees, declaring it to be 'calamitous,' writing that 'Jenna Ortega tries hard to illuminate this misbegotten Kazuo Ishiguro adaptation, but Waititi's decision to play it for strained, whimsical comedy is ruinous.'

Tim Robey of The Telegraph meanwhile sums up the movie as 'mind-meltingly dreadful'.

Klara And The Sun hits UK cinemas on October 23.
