Jane Seymour has revealed why she dated her Dr Quinn Medicine Woman costar Joe Lando for only a 'couple of weeks' even though they had sizzling chemistry on their hit show.

The 75-year-old actress told People this week that she and the 64-year-old actor just did not have sparks.

'So, we did the pilot, and we were both single at the time, and somehow, for some obscure reason, we thought that Michaela and Sully, Joe and Jane—' she began, referring to their characters.

'They would work in real life,' Lando interjected.

'We quickly found out we didn't,' Seymour said, adding it did not take long to end their romance.

'We work brilliantly on screen. We work brilliantly as best friends. We work brilliantly as people who adore and love one another, but we can't be—' she added.

Jane Seymour has revealed why she never dated her Dr Quinn Medicine Woman costar Joe Lando for more than a few weeks even though they had sizzling chemistry on their show

The 75-year-old actress told People this week that she and the 64-year-old actor just did not have the sparks

'Mates,' Lando said.

'We can't be married, or anything like that. No,' Seymour then said. 'But we tried. A week, a couple of weeks?'

They have stayed close pals.

'The good news is we know what that is, so we don't just know about acting with one another; we somehow created a chemistry that, regardless of what role we play, it apparently just shows up and sizzles, including on Harry Wild,' Seymour said about his guest work on her most recent series.

Lando also shared that they just really like each other. 'I think we enjoy our time together,' he told People. 'I think that's it too, we enjoy it.'

'We're kind of like an old married couple,' Lando added with a smile.

Seymour concurs, adding: 'We actually can finish one another's sentences. We could predict what one another's going to get upset about.'

Seymour and Lando costarred on Dr. Quinn for six seasons, from 1993 to 1998, and they both returned for two television films after the series had been canceled.

The English actress led the series as a Dr. Michaela Quinn, a trained physician who moves out to Colorado shortly after the end of the American Civil War.

She establishes a clinic in Colorado Springs and tries to ingratiate herself with the locals, who are initially resistant to being treated by a woman.

Lando was featured on the series as the beefcake outdoorsman Byron Sully, who was Seymour's primary love interest.

In January 2025, Lando lost his home in the raging LA fires.

Seymour had them stay in her Malibu home in the aftermath.

'The Lando family is intact. All of us and our dogs and our two birds, thankfully, there are angels in this world,' Lando said in a video last year.

'We’re left with nothing except each other,' he continued. 'My friend Jane Seymour allowed us to come over to her house and opened it up for us without any hesitation and thank God [she] gave us someplace to come and sleep.'

Lando has maintained a strong friendship with Seymour over the years, and the two have reunited on screen multiple times.

In 2011, they appeared together in the Hallmark Channel movie Perfectly Prudence, and they costarred just over a decade later in the 2022 Lifetime movie A Christmas Spark.
