Jamie Foxx Speaks Out After Being Hit With a Glass at His Birthday Dinner & Needing Stitches
Jamie Foxx isn’t letting a little set back bring him down.
The Oscar winner proved as much with a message to his fans after he suffered an injury during his birthday celebration at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills on Dec. 13.
“The devil is a lie,” the 57-year-old wrote on Instagram Dec. 15. “Can’t win here—thank you to everybody that pray and check on me. When your light is shining bright—they try to bring you darkness—but they don’t know that you’re built for it—the lights have been shining bright.”
And Jamie also shared a note of gratitude for those streaming his new comedy special, which hit Netflix Dec. 10.
“Huge thank yous to everyone that have watched and been inspired by What Had Happened Was,” Jamie continued. “Number 1 on @netflix if you haven’t checked it out, please go check it out it’s from my heart and my soul.”
Jamie’s injury occurred during his birthday dinner Dec. 13 while he was celebrating with his family at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills. The Spider-Man star became involved in a confrontation with an unidentified person, according to a statement to NBC News, and the Beverly Hills police department said that around 10 p.m. officers responded to a possible assault with a deadly weapon.
"Upon investigation, officers determined that the reported assault with a deadly weapon was unfounded," the statement from the BHPD said. "Instead, the incident involved a physical altercation between parties. The BHPD conducted a preliminary investigation and completed a report documenting the battery. No arrests were made."
The Django Unchained star’s rep also later confirmed the incident in a statement to NBC News.
"Jamie Foxx was at his birthday dinner when someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth," the actor's rep told NBC News in comments published Dec. 14. "He had to get stitches and is recovering. The police were called, and the matter is now in law enforcement’s hands.”
The incident comes on the heels of the release of the “Blame It” singer’s Netflix special, What Had Happened Was…. The comedy special was the first time Jamie—who is the father of Corrine Fox, 30, and Anelise Bishop, 16—opened up about the brain bleed, that led to a stroke that left him hospitalized for 20 days in 2023. In the special, the Just Mercy star expressed gratitude for his life and health.
"I appreciate every well wish, Atlanta,” Jamie said. “To the world, I can’t thank you enough, Even when I see people on the street and they roll the window down and yell out, 'Man, we're glad you're here,' as I look out and I see my family and I see my friends, I can’t tell you how good it feels. It feels amazing."
