Jamie Foxx Emotionally Reveals He Was Hospitalized For a Brain Bleed and Stroke

Jamie Foxx is recovering after being injured during a confrontation at his birthday dinner.

The Oscar winner was celebrating turning 57 with his family at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills Dec. 13 when he allegedly become involved in a confrontation with an unidentified person inside.

"Jamie Foxx was at his birthday dinner when someone from another table threw a glass that hit him in the mouth," the actor's rep told NBC News in comments published Dec. 14. "He had to get stitches and is recovering. The police were called and the matter is now in law enforcement’s hands."

The Beverly Hills Police Department said in a statement to NBC News that at about 10 p.m. that day, officers responded to a reported possible assault with a deadly weapon at Mr. Chow.

"Upon investigation, officers determined that the reported assault with a deadly weapon was unfounded," it said. "Instead, the incident involved a physical altercation between parties. The BHPD conducted a preliminary investigation and completed a report documenting the battery. No arrests were made."

TMZ reported that Foxx had already left the restaurant when the police arrived.

The incident took place more than a year after Foxx was hospitalized for another ailment, which he confirmed on his new Netflix special to have been a brain bleed that turned into a stroke.

"April 11 [2023], I was having a bad headache, and I asked my boy for an aspirin. I realized quickly that when you’re in a medical emergency, your boys don’t know what the f--k to do," he said on What Had Happened Was, released Dec. 10. "Before I could get the aspirin, I went out. I don’t remember 20 days."

Following his hemorrhagic stroke, the actor underwent surgery and later had to relearn skills like walking and talking at a rehabilitation facility.

"Twenty days I don’t remember, but on May 4th I woke up," he said. "And I when I woke up, I found myself in a wheelchair. I couldn't walk, in a wheelchair, and I was like, 'Why the f--k am I in a wheelchair?'"

Foxx, father of daughters Corinne Foxx, 30, and Anelise Bishop, 16, credits his family for keeping his medical condition private.

"They didn’t want you to see me like that. And I didn’t want you to see me like that,” Jamie said, getting emotional. “I want you to see me like this."
