James Martin's Saturday Morning star Alysia Vasey claims her 'toxic' ex branded her family 'scum' and denied her a knee operation - after revealing they are divorcing after less than a year of marriage

James Martin's Saturday Morning star Alysia Vasey has claimed she was in a 'toxic' relationship with her husband before announcing their divorce.

Alysia, known as The Yorkshire Forager, has said her ex called her family 'scum' and threatened to leave her if she had the knee surgery she needed.

Alysia only married last year but earlier this month she announced they had split several months before after being 'taken for a ride'. 

She has now said that her partner – who she has never named publicly – 'racked up bills on her credit card' and left her feeling trapped. 

Taking to Instagram, Alysia said: 'Let's just say there's a couple of things that you can't come back from.

'Getting married, and being told – and you all know I've got dodgy knees, I've had dodgy knees for ages – that if you had a knee operation and it didn't work, they didn't want to be with you anymore.

'Because they're not going to be looking after a disabled person and the house wasn't suitable for that sort of person.'

Alysia continued by claiming that her husband referred to her family as 'Polish scum', once he learned her grandfather had fought in the Second World War. 

Alysia captioned the post: 'Thought long and hard about this, but it's helping me putting this out there, the words that you just cannot forgive or go back on.

'I made excuses to myself thinking, they didn't mean it. But living a toxic life is no good for anybody. If you're dealing with this or you've managed to escape then please share in the comments and rebuild brighter and better.' 

Alysia recently announced she was divorcing her husband after losing 'just about everything' less than a year into their marriage.

Alysia shared an emotional video with her Instagram followers this week, telling them: 'So this is a hard one. I feel like coming clean because there's no point wearing a wedding ring when your marriage is over.'

'And it has been since before Christmas. I know I haven't been married long.'

The star, who gave up her job as a teaching assistant to become a forager and regularly appears on ITV, said: 'I'm a big believer in love, marriage, everything. But I just got taken for a ride. Got all the money taken from me.

'Everything. Absolutely everything. It's been a struggle. Absolute struggle these last eight, nine months. I didn't expect it.'

'I feel a bit embarrassed by it all, but it is what it is. So I'm on my own and I didn't expect that,' she then admitted.

'Anyway, I feel like I've come clean now, so it is what it is, isn't it? Anyway, goodnight. I hope you're all well.'

In the accompanying caption she added that she has 'lived unimaginably hard times, that I have put a brave face on. It's been very tough for me the last 4 years, I've managed to break free, but lost just about everything.'

She wrote: 'I'm still coming to terms with everything and hopefully one day will find the peace and love that I deserve.'

In February 2025, Alysia revealed she was recently married on James Martin's show, excitedly telling the host that she would be going by her new married surname of Greenwood.

James told her: 'I am not going to get the hang of this. I have been calling you Alysia Vasey for years now.'

Alysia then added: 'Better foraging name, Greenwood!'

In a January 2024 post on X she shared a photo of her partner's proposal and her engagement ring as she gushed: 'My love proposed to me on New Year's Eve... and I said Yes!'

'Looking forward to spending a lifetime together... (what's left of it knocking on a bit) an exciting year ahead!'

Alysia had posted photos of her travels with her husband in the months before the split, including a holiday snap from Sorrento in August 2025.

Alysia, who also appears on Countryfile, makes a living supplying some of the country’s top Michelin starred restaurants with her foraged finds.

She was encouraged to pursue the unusual career after a childhood spent foraging with her grandfather.

'Every weekend me and my brother Adrian would go for walks in the woods and on the moors with our grandad as he searched for plants, nuts, mushrooms and fruit,' she told the Yorkshire Post.

'I don’t ever remember him teaching me exactly, but I copied him and listened and he would test my knowledge, correcting me if I went wrong.'

'Thanks to grandad by the time I was seven or eight I could identify every tree, plant, flower, animal and bird that we came across. I knew which plants, nuts, berries and mushrooms were safe to eat and which had to be left alone.'

She later learned while researching her 2020 book The Yorkshire Forager: A Wild Food Survival Journey that her Polish grandfather's foraging came out of necessity when he was living in the woods, hiding from the Nazis during the Second World War. 

With her first husband Chris and the help of her mum, Alysia launched her business Yorkshire Foragers in 2010.
