This post contains a preview for Star Wars: Battle of Jakku - Last Stand #4

Star Wars is set to finally reveal the Battle of Jakku in full. The definitive battle that "changed everything" for the galaxy, Jakku is best known for its appearance in The Force Awakens as the desert planet where Rey Skywalker grew up scavenging the aftermath of this massive final conflict that saw the Imperial Navy surrendering to the New Republic, one year after the Battle of Endor. While elements of the epic conflict have been seen previously in canonical books and comics, the final issue of Last Stand will finally reveal the roles of the original trilogy's most famous heroes.

In the new preview for Star Wars: Battle of Jakku - Last Stand #4 by Alex Segura, Jethro Morales, and Jim Campbell, this culminating issue shows the battle in full swing. Not only has the Imperial Navy started to fracture at Jakku, but the New Republic has engaged their forces with aid from the pirate ruler Eleodie Maracavanya aboard a stolen Super Star Destroyer. However, they aren't the only two factions present, as this new Marvel series has revealed that former Imperial leader Grand Moff Adelhard intends to destroy both parties with his coalition of loyalists and allied spice runners:

However, this new preview confirms that a plan is in motion for the spice runners to betray Adelhard, while Luke Skywalker himself infiltrates the Grand Moff's ship to defeat him once and for all. As such, it seems this new issue is finally confirming events and details that have long been missing from the Battle of Jakku.

Jakku Was One Of The Most Important Star Wars Battles Ever

Unlike the Battle of Endor that saw the destruction of the second Death Star and the deaths of both Palpatine and Darth Vader, Jakku was the battle that brought a true end to the Galactic Civil War with the rest of the Imperial Navy's ultimate surrender, leaving only remnants in its wake as seen in shows like The Mandalorian. While the Empire still lived on in secret to later become the First Order as seen in the sequel trilogy, previous books and this new Marvel series have confirmed that Jakku could have easily been much worse for the galaxy at large.

Star Wars: 10 Things Only Die-Hard Fans Know About Jakku

Introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as Rey's homeworld, die-hard Star Wars fans know there's a lot more to the desert planet.

As part of a hidden posthumous design by the late Palpatine, the Emperor's protege Gallius Rax was meant to bring both the Imperial Navy and New Republic to Jakku before blowing up the planet's core, destroying both fleets in the process. However, Grand Admiral Rae Sloane discovered this deception and prevented it from happening alongside New Republic heroes. Likewise, Sloane herself would end up fleeing to the Unknown Regions in the aftermath to become one of the First Order's first leaders, while the rest of the remaining Imperials largely surrendered to the New Republic, reshaping the next 30 years of the Star Wars galaxy.

Their Crucial Roles Finally Revealed

While this narrative with Rax comes from the Aftermath trilogy of novels, it is referenced in this new Battle of Jakku series. However, the true draw of this final issue will be showing the unseen side of the conflict. After all, the rogue Moff Adelhard seems to be the reason why Star Wars' most famous heroes were not more prominently featured in the original Jakku-set stories. Rather than being part of the battle directly, they were working to remove Adelhard from the board, who could have tipped the scales in so many different ways in his desire to destroy both the Empire and the New Republic simultaneously.

Star Wars: Battle of Jakku - Last Stand #4 is on sale January 22nd from Marvel Comics.
