Guy Ritchie is assembling his most dynamic trio yet with In the Grey.
The upcoming action thriller will feature Jake Gyllenhaal, Henry Cavill, and Eiza González teaming up as they undertake an impossible mission to steal back a billion-dollar fortune from a merciless despot. After several release issues, the film is finally seeing the light of day, three years after filming was completed.
Black Bear dropped the first trailer of In the Grey, showcasing high-octane action and the mutual partnership between the trio. The preview begins with Sophia (González), who is trying to make a deal with someone, while Sid (Cavill) and Bronco (Gyllenhaal) mind their business. However, when the security guard comes, Bronco has two options: either he waits at the door, or he will meet a bloody fate.
Sophia’s voice is heard, describing the villain Manny Salazaar, who stole a billion dollars. She then tells Rosamund Pike’s character that she can recover the cash. Admitting that this scale requires “insurance,” Sophia bails out Bronco and Sid from prison since they “will now solve it their way.”
The trailer showcases Bronco and Sid in action, including taking out guards and shooting a bazooka at a helicopter. Additionally, the task is challenging as Salazar has the police on his payroll and has a private army on his island. Sophia describes their methods as “they work between the moral and the immoral. The black and the white. They operate in the grey.” Check out the action-packed trailer below:
The first trailer dropping is a big deal since the making of In the Grey did not come without challenges. The thriller was originally scheduled to release in early January 2025, but post-production didn’t hit the deadline on time, resulting in Lionsgate withdrawing from the U.S. distribution rights. Black Bear took over the deal, and the release was then placed for January 2026. Then, the film faced another delay before finally settling in May 2026.
The long-awaited movie will showcase the main trio in what is Ritchie’s most stellar ensemble yet. For Cavill and González, this is their third time working with Ritchie. Cavill appeared in The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which also featured González. González also played an antagonist in Apple TV's Fountain of Youth. On the other hand, Gyllehaal books his second collaboration after Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant in 2023.
While In the Grey is finally making its way to theaters, it won’t be the only project by Ritchie to come out in 2026, as he has one of the busiest years. The director also has the upcoming Wife & Dog, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Pike. Earlier this year, he also directed two episodes of Young Sherlock.
Alongside the main trio, the In the Grey cast includes Kristofer Hivju, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jason Wong, Michael Vu, Fisher Stevens, Pike, and Carlos Bardem. Ritchie both wrote and directed the thriller, as well as being a producer alongside John Friedberg, Dave Caplan, and Atkinson.
In the Grey will be released in theaters on May 15, 2026.
