This article contains major spoilers for Reacher season 4, episode 4.Reacher season 4 has finally revealed its titular character's biggest weakness: he thinks with his pants. The Alan Ritchson character in Prime Video's Reacher is usually portrayed as an unrelenting force of nature. He not only physically overpowers anyone who stands in his way but also displays genius deductive abilities.

Even in season 4, Alan Ritchson's Jack Reacher stays ahead of the curve and shows Sherlock-esque abilities when deducing clues. He even gets embroiled in one fight after another with highly trained operatives and refuses to step back from finding the truth. However, as Reacher season 4's episode 4 reveals, one massive oversight significantly sets him back.

Before episode 4's credits start rolling, Reacher season 4 drops a massive villain twist that completely changes its story's direction. At the same time, it also exposes Jack Reacher's biggest weakness on full display. It highlights how, as invincible and stoic as Reacher may seem, he, too, falls prey to some common human mistakes.

Reacher Not Seeing Through Lila's Act Is Embarrassing

For a character who is supposed to be inspired by Sherlock Holmes, it is almost embarrassing that Reacher never looks through Lila's ploy. He easily gives her the benefit of the doubt when she claims she has cancer and hopes to get a bone marrow transplant from Sampson.

Since her sob story is quite convincing, and she even sells it really well, it makes sense that Reacher somewhat falls for it. However, her deception gradually shows many red flags which Reacher surprisingly ignores. To make things worse, he even gets romantically involved with her and genuinely believes she is on his side.

Her first lie about her illness was, in itself, a big red flag that should have made Reacher suspicious about her true motives. The fact that he easily falls for her journalist narrative instead of suspecting her bigger role in the conspiracy is just another careless oversight.

Even her whole story about Amisha being her mother in the beginning made little sense. Yet, Jack Reacher's "chivalrous blind spots" get the best of him, and he keeps falling for Lila's lies until it is too late.

Reacher Gives Lila So Much Crucial Information

In previous seasons, Reacher never let his guard down. Even when his suspects proved their innocence, he kept a close eye on them till the end. With Lila, however, he overshares every detail of the investigation. After learning that she is nothing but a regular civilian, Reacher should have backed off from giving away too much information to her.

Her lying streak in the beginning should have also made him a little wary about how she could hinder his investigation. Yet, he keeps telling her things that would be invaluable to a villain, including the theory about Anna Merrick sending the drive via mail. By sharing so much with Lila, Reacher actively helps a villain stay ahead of his investigation and get exactly what she wants.

When one compares this to how he behaves with Sampson and shows little trust towards him, it seems evident that Reacher's judgment was completely clouded around Lila. He took all her claims at face value despite all the warning signs. His rare lapse of awareness in season 4 proves that, for the first time, he was thinking with his pants instead of carefully noticing how "details matter in an investigation."

Reacher's Weakness Has Never Been A Problem Before

Jack Reacher's love interests in all previous seasons proved to be reliable allies who helped him with his central investigation. Roscoe, Dixon, and Duffy were all as determined as him to save the day and serve justice to the wrongdoers. This makes it hard not to wonder if they, too, could have fooled him if they did not have the best intentions in mind.

While Reacher's sense of judgment is not terrible by any means, he does seem to have a blind spot when it comes to the women he is close to.

His usual skepticism seemingly fades when he gets emotionally involved with someone. This establishes that he only got lucky in previous seasons. Things probably would not have gone in his favor if Roscoe, Dixon, or Duffy had played the same game as Lila.

It is perhaps his streak of good fortune with all previous female leads that makes him shed his doubts and believe Lila. After Reacher season 4, however, he will likely learn a hard-earned lesson and tread more carefully in the future.
